Synthesis Literature Review
Assignment Summary
You must gather research sources for the topic you chose and presented in WA #1, the Proposal Memo. Using these research sources, you must compose a Literature Reviewthat Synthesizes what your sources say about your topic. Your Synthesis Literature Review should be at least 1000 words long and use at least seven (7) sources.
How Your Synthesis Literature Review (WA #2) relates to the Proposal Memo (WA #1) and the Research Report (WA #4)
The Synthesis Literature Review is the “middle step” in the sequence of assignments in WRTG 394. In the Proposal Memo,WA #1, you chose your topic by identifying a problem in your workplace or community (neighborhood) and proposing one or more possible solutions. In the Synthesis Literature Review,WA #2, you will write a paper that looks at what your sources say about your topic and reports that information to readers discussing how sources agree, disagree, add to each other’s work, and diverge from your topic(this is what is called synthesis – you synthesize – bring together by showing relationships between – your sources in relation to their themes and your topic). This kind of reporting on and reviewing your sources will help you understand the sources you have found better and help you do a better job of using them to identify your problem and offer one or more possible solutions in the Research Report, WA #3.
What You Must Provide for WA #2, the Synthesis Literature Review
Your review has a clear thesis that explains to readers that you will report on and review the sources you have gathered based on themes you have identified in those sources.
Your review uses headings for every section (see below for a template).
In each section that discusses a theme you have identified in the sources, you report what each source has to say about the theme and discuss how sources agree, disagree, add to each other’s work on the theme, andwhere any sources diverge from other sources in exploring the theme.
Your review meets word length requirements and follows correct business style.
Your review uses American Psychological Association (APA) 7th edition citation style for citing sources within the text of your paper and in providing a reference page.
A Helpful Template for Structuring Your Synthesis Literature Review
For this assignment you will want to follow an assignment template (a template is a frame or format that you will use for completing your memo. Such templates are common in business writing).
Note: Please adapt the format presented below, adapting the headers provided, for the synthesis literature review. Be aware that you should identify 2-5 themes within your research sources concerning the topic you are researching. Not all sources will have information about all the themes you identify. For a successful review, you should only discuss themes which you find in at least two (2) sources.
Introduction
In this section of your review, you introduce your topic, mention why it’s important, and present a thesis statement that identifies the themes you have discovered in your sources’ treatment of the topic.
Theme I
Report what your sources say about the theme and then discuss how they agree, disagree, add to each other’s work, or diverge from the theme.
Theme II
Report what your sources say about the theme and then discuss how they agree, disagree, add to each other’s work, or diverge from the theme.
Theme III
Report what your sources say about the theme and then discuss how they agree, disagree, add to each other’s work, or diverge from the theme.
(You may find that you have as many as five themes to discuss in your review. Three is an average number.)
Conclusion
In this final section of your review, you remind readers of the themes you have identified and discussed and summarize what your discussion of the themes has been. You might take the opportunity to mention that you have demonstrated why your topic is an important one that needs to be researched and written about. ?

To: Joe Smith, HR Business Partner of Naval Aviation Company
From: Renee Ermer, Program Analyst
Date: February 17, 2020
Subject: Request to Conduct Research on Communication Techniques and Alternatives
Summary
As a cleared government contractor supporting the Navy, we have many employees working in
different office locations or from remote locations exercising telework. Because of such,
communication between employees is limited to email or teleconferences in which employees
cannot collaborate and communicate to the fullest as our program demands. To improve this, I
propose that the company enforce new policies in which employees can only telework on
approved bases, subjecting employees to participate in a traditional environment. Additionally, in
order to solve issues related to workers in different locations within the same city, I propose that
the company develop a company-wide instant messaging (IM) software and enforce new policies
requiring each team and program to have a weekly face-to-face meeting in which employees can
engage with one another and establish working relationships.
What the Problem Is and Why It Needs to Be Investigated
The problem we are facing as a company is that employees are becoming detached and
uninterested or invested in their work as they do not have a cohesive location and often cannot
communicate with co-workers effectively. This is not to say that telework should be prohibited,
more so that remote work should be used as an alternative when employees need flexibility
outside of the traditional work environment. This poses many issues to the company. First, it is
our role as government contractors to satisfy our government customers to maintain contracts
and business. Without effective communication and cooperation, we cannot provide the support
required to our customers and we run the risk of losing contracts and losing business and
revenue.
Secondly, this poses a problem to the company in that employees are not engaging with one
another on a daily or regular basis. Instances in which employees do not establish working
relationships with one another often result in decreased job satisfaction and increased employee
turnover in which the company is constantly hiring new workers and investing funds to train new
employees.
It is essential that employees feel appreciated and heard in their concerns in the workplace. It is
also crucial that employees can effectively complete the jobs required of them, which in our
industry, required constant communication and contact with one another and other team
members. Frequent turnover is not only a problem to the company, but also presents a bad
representation of the company to our customers when they are frequently engaging with new
individuals as personnel leave.
What Secondary Research I Have Conducted about the Problem
Secondary research that I have conducted on the problem has revolved around the issues
telework poses in creating distance barriers that bar effective communication. Many scholars and
studies support the notion that telework limits employees and managers from developing
relationships that are impactful on promoting increased collaboration in the workplace.
Additionally, studies suggest that face-to-face communication directly leads to increased
productivity and innovation in work as employees are more likely to engage in conversations that
would be limited on virtual platforms. To promote constant collaboration and teamwork,
employees need to have a platform that provides constant communication as well as regular team
meetings and in-person contact.
Why We Will Benefit from My Research and Recommendations
Our company will benefit in many ways from the research that I will perform on the issues.
Through my research, the HR Department will get a better understanding of the concerns that
employees have related to communication issues. Additionally, the company will be able to
gauge the satisfaction that we are giving our government customers and ways in which we can
improve to serve them better and better perform our goals. Additionally, my research will reveal
techniques that can improve employee communication and ultimately improve working
relationships and boost employee morale. As a company, we can always benefit from keeping
talent in our company and further investing in employees that have been loyal to our cause and
efforts. My recommendations will allow the HR Department, as well as Business Partners, to
consider the repercussions of failing to enforce relevant policies related to communication and
work techniques.
Conclusion
The Naval Aviation Company is a growing organization that is currently facing problems related
to distance between employees and lacking methods of improving communication techniques.
As a company, we are always striving to attain more government contracts demanding more
workers, and we cannot continue to grow without addressing communication concerns. With
your permission, I will conduct research on implementing a company-wide communication
system and show the benefits of enforcing policies pertaining to in-person meetings and team
events.

To: Reagan Mort, Regional Director of Property Management Company
From: Finley Oben, Resident of Elite Enclave
Date: June 10, 2024
Subject: Proposal to Address Inadequate Parking Spaces in Our Apartment Community
Summary
My request is to be allowed to carry out a study and document a comprehensive report about the
insufficient parking lots within our residential complex, Elite Enclave. The daily routines of the
inhabitants and their unity were significantly affected by this problem. Through my study, I
intend to offer some solutions that can make parking better so as to increase how happy residents
are while also promoting increased peace among them.
What the Problem Is and Why It Needs to Be Investigated
Insufficient parking lots at our apartments have continued to cause grave concern among the
residents; it affects their peace and daily routine. Many times, residents are seen to waste a lot of
their time in search of parking slots due to the reduced number of available parking slots. This
becomes even worse in the evenings, which are peak hours for the return home from the job. In
some cases, people may spend a lot of time trying to find a place to park a car, which is
exhausting.
In addition, there is also an increased rate of conflicts among neighbors due to this issue. When
there is little parking space, residents have to fight for the spaces, and this breeds issues and
fights. Moreover, non-compliance with parking rules, including wrongful parking on pedestrian
crossings, footpaths, or close enough to fire brigade water supply points, only compounds these
problems.
In addition, the security and safety of residents are at risk because there is not enough allocated
parking space. Due to the lack of enough parking slots, a few inhabitants park on the road,
making their cars more exposed to vandalism as well as theft.
This matter also endangers the reputation of the community and occupancy levels. Continuous
parking problems may discourage new tenants from coming in and tarnish our society’s
reputation. It is essential for us, therefore, to look into such issues and come up with workable
plans that will reduce their effects on the comfort of the life of those who reside now and who
will do so in the future.
Secondary Research You Will Conduct
To support my research, I will exhaustively scrutinize academic and trade literature. First of all, I
will visit the UMGC library for access to relevant peer-reviewed journals about residential
parking spaces concerning urban planning. These articles will show some ways through which
people can solve their parking problems at home, such as by coming up with modern policies
and plans. Moreover, I shall go through property management case studies as well as literature
on recommended approaches employed by different neighborhoods regarding this particular
issue of parking menace. This is going to give us many sensible remedies that have been tried out
elsewhere and may suit the unique needs of our community. By incorporating both scholarly and
2
professional sources into my research, I intend to achieve a comprehensive understanding of the
problem and provide workable solutions for society.
Benefits of Your Research and Your Report’s Recommendations
The exploration that I will carry out and the report about ameliorating parking space within our
apartments has many advantages. One, it will make the residents happy when they see that
through the project, we have been able to deal with any parking-related issues that have made
their living difficult and uncomfortable. By doing this, there is a possibility that there will be
increased renewals on leases as well as an improvement in the overall spirit of the community.
Secondly, my research aims to create a safer environment in the community. If I suggest ways of
creating more parking slots than before, then there would be less need for parking at the side of
the road, which is unsafe because it may lead to acts of vandalism or theft. The result should be
ease in mind on the part of tenants and sustained healthy surroundings for property inhabitants.
Thirdly, it is essential to solve the problem of insufficient parking space to enhance unity in
society. This can be achieved by reducing cases where people fight amongst themselves for
space, or residents fail to find parking slots, thereby increasing stress levels among them, hence
promoting peace and unity within the society.
In addition, taking steps towards better parking spaces will increase the appeal of our community
to newcomers. As a result, this might affect how many rooms are occupied as well as what
people generally think about us. Dealing with this identified challenge, we shall make a better
living environment that accommodates everyone now and then.
In summary, my study can significantly contribute to the welfare of our society through
improved resident contentment, better safety and security measures, encouragement of peace
among neighbors, and attraction for newcomers. Therefore, I request your permission to carry
out this research and offer some solutions concerning the urgent challenge facing our residential
complex.
Conclusion
I respectfully request for consent to carry out this study aimed at identifying ways of making
parking better within our flats. The findings, proposals, and conclusions drawn from this research
paper will go a long way in solving a common issue among all; hence, it will be of use to those
residing with us now as well as in the days to come.
I appreciate that you have taken note of what I asked for. Anticipating an optimistic reply from
you whereby I will have played my part in bettering our society.
Sincerely,
Finley Oben
