Observation and Developmental Summary Assessment tips.

The purpose of this holistic assignment is to observe the child in all the development domains. It is up to you how you cover the different developmental domains through the variety of observations listed. Although we are prescriptive about the types of observation you complete and the sequences to use in the video of ‘Megen’, you are able to determine what developmental domains you want to observe within each different type of observation.

With the checklist observation:

· you can have one checklist covering more than one developmental domain if you feel you have not covered all the domains adequately in the other observations or

· you can have one checklist covering just one developmental domain if you feel you have covered the other domains adequately in the other observations

You do not have to cover all the developmental areas in the one checklist.

It is a great idea to set up a quick reference such as the table below (DO NOT NEED TO SUBMIT THIS AS PART OF YOUR ASSIGNMENT) to ensure that you have adequate information across all developmental domains, remember you are observing the child in a holistic manner which will help you to create the child’s developmental summary.

Future planning is clear and relevant to the developmental summary content.

Task 3
Planning suggestions and educator interactions

Planning suggestions are complete, three (3) experiences in total.
Planning suggestions reflect observations/ developmental summary and include appropriate developmental priorities / learning opportunities and links to Early Years Learning Framework learning outcomes and sub elements.
Educator interactions are clearly identified.
Follow up ideas are clear and relevant to the planning suggestion content and observation/ developmental summary content.
Please note reflection/ evaluation of experiences is not required as these planning suggestions will not be implemented.
