Perspectives in Change Leadership
Workforce 2020 Executive Report
The current trends in globalization, extensive use of technology and workforce diversity due to globalization is likely to change the type of labor force that managers are likely to face in the next two years. Apart from technology and globalization, other trends such as the evolution of contractors and sub-contractors are likely to change the type of workforce that organizations will face by 2020 (Faems, & Subramanian, 2013). Changes in the kind of equipment and assets used in the manufacturing process will also require different skills and knowledge that will require of employees in organizations, and it is because of these that managers are expected to be prepared to overcome the challenges that will emerge in the process. This is an executive summary of the workforce 2020 report.
Description of the Organizations
To effectively complete the executive report, it was important that a company that operates in one of the most competitive and changing industry is analyzed. In this report, a hypothetical company Europro Inc. was investigated to effectively complete the report. Europro Incorporation Company is an aviation parts manufacturing company that has its headquarters in the United Kingdom but has several subsidiaries all over the world (Dashchenko, 2012). The company has been in existence for twelve years now, and it specifically deals with the manufacture of aviation parts which are in high demand across the world. The aviation industry is one of the most competitive industries in the world, and this has been enhanced with the latest trends in the use of technology in the industry. Due to the urgent demand of the aviation parts, the company has been forced to virtually have a subsidiary in almost every region of the world something that has been made possible due to globalization.
Organization’s Motivation Approach
Employees are the backbone of any organization, and as far as success is concerned, organizations must come up with strategies to motivate its employees. Europro Company is considered as one of the most successful companies in the aviation industry. This is because of its leadership approaches that it has employed to manage the company employees. The organization’s leadership understands that employee motivation is not all about better remuneration since there is life apart from money (Okoro, & Washington, 2012). This understanding has made it possible for the organization leadership to think motivation as something that can be achieved belong salary. The organization has employed two strategies that it has used to motivate its employees. Firstly, the company has created an environment which sees employees as the most valuable assets of the company. Is achieved at the company by allowing employees to make their choices from time to time. Secondly, Europro has been able to motivate its employees by allowing employees to know that the company management trusts them. This has made the company employees do the right thing without being directed or even monitored. Trusting employees at the organization has also created the confidence among the employees, and it assures them of their job in the future at the company.
Organizations Workforce
As aforesaid in this paper, the organization operates in the aviation industry which is one of the most competitive industries (Okoro, & Washington, 2012). The company also operates in different demographics given that it is a global company. The aviation industry has experienced changes in the labor dynamics something that has affected the workforce at the company. The last few years have seen most of the skilled labor force in the aviation industry moving from developing to developed companies as the industry has experienced a considerable number of mergers and acquisitions something that has created fear among employees who work for small firms (Faems, & Subramanian, 2013). This affected the company in the initial stages, but since the company decided to go global, employees have been assured of their job, and there have been no movements of the labor force. The major noticeable workforce dynamics is the influence of technology which has resulted in automation and reduces the use of human labor hence reducing the human labor demands in the industry.
Workforce and Industry Trends Impacting the Organization
Globalization has resulted in the internationalization of company operations to other parts of the world. Because of this, it is important that the organization frame a workforce diversity that will allow or rather create an environment that will accommodate all employees irrespective of their background and culture (Faems, & Subramanian, 2013). With the contemporary trends in technological development, it is imperative that the organization organize for employee training programs so as they can acquire the requisite skills and knowledge to meet the technological demands. Employee training is important as it will allow employees to discover their talents and improve the organization’s productivity. It also enhances employee retention something that is very important to the organization given the current trends in the industry. Europro can meet this by implementing policies that were employed by Wal-Mart management team at Wal-Mart.
Despite the growth of the organization, globalization trends have impacted the organization negatively. Most of the organization with equivalent products have been able to penetrate the industry market in other parts where the company had enjoyed monopoly something that has reduced its revenue (Dashchenko, 2012). Automation among most of the aviation companies has also impacted the company positively as it has been able to reduce the cost of operation and production at the company. The current trends in the aviation industry which have seen companies merging or taking over other small organization is also something that has impacted the organization as a larger organization have emerged from these trends hence increased competition in the industry.
