Second Essay: Discuss and compare the two presidential elections in which General Ulysses S. Grant ran for the White House- 1868 and 1872. Illustrate how, in just four years, Grants heroic image became greatly tarnished, yet, despite a climate of scandal and corruption that pervaded his administration, he was still able to pull off an easy victory. How was he able to accomplish this?
