Less having, more giving
Isabel Allende is expressing her feelings and her way in interacting with people or family. “In giving I connect with others” her topic, she describes a method that she espoused from her passed daughter, I choose this article because it describes a way to connect emotionally and physically with people, and to have a bond with them, by having less than giving, to heal yourself by seeing happiness in people faces. But how did she learned that from her daughter and can it really be a way to deal with people?
Her daughter fell in a coma until she died back in 1992, when her daughter Paula died she rethought her beliefs about all the people around her. All of the time she was only grieving and crying over her passed daughter until started to notice that her believes and her thoughts about everything didn’t changed, Isabel said “Paralyzed and silent in her bed, my daughter Paula taught me a lesson that is now my mantra: You only have what you give. It’s by spending yourself that you become rich”; that’s when everything in her life changed, that’s when we can learn from her essential way of dealing with others, how she connect with the people around her, and fulfilling that gap in her heart for her daughter, how did she found the treatment that led her to a way to forget sadness with happiness in a way that psychologist wouldn’t do in a short time. However, Paula taught us a lesson that Isabel and we are going to learn from her beloved daughter Paula.
Before Paula fell she was working for a voluntary job helping women and children, it was a full time job for her. Her mother Isabel says that she never had any money, and she needed a few, that’s lead us to a question what is the motivation that kept her going for work even if there is nothing in return?, her mother answered that question, Isabel Said “When she died she had nothing and she needed nothing”, Isabel reached that point after she thought that she lost everything that reminds her of her daughter, everything that made a mark on her life, except one thing “But then I realized had the love I had given her” Isabel said “ I don’t know if she was able to receive that love”, her love for her daughter still growing in her even, but, what about who can’t reach his beloved one even if they were a live, and the reason is because of the long distance between them, well that’s when the technology have a role in this problem, the communication is easier with the instant cam and text messages for those who haven’t seen their beloved one for long time, however, it’s not replacement for your love one to see them in person. Giving love to people is nothing that you give in your hand, it’s about emotions involved with act, I think that what Isabel missed from her daughter; she said” she could not respond in any way, her eyes were somber pools that reflected no light”.
In that point she learned from her daughter to get rid of all of her experience, and keep what’s important, she said” Now I like to give much more than to receive”, she realized and worked on giving more than having, she’s now giving more love for her family, even if she doesn’t know if they like her “I adore my husband, my son, my grandchildren, my mother, my dog, and frankly I don’t know if they even like me. But who cares? Loving them is my joy.”, giving to put a smile on a face is a good physiologist way to relief your soul from all the bad thing if you have some or even to have more respect from people and yourself, Paula took a way to heal her inner problems by helping people, and to give them what she had.
Her last advise in the article “Give, give, give- what is the point of having experience, knowledge, or talent, if I don’t give it away?” so what is the point of having, eventually death is the end of your road, give more in your life, you will not carry what you have collected to your grave, no one will remember you except the things that you did to your surroundings, that’s also what happened to her daughter and how is she remembered now, Isabel said “It’s in giving that I feel the spirit of my daughter inside me, like a soft presence”, that’s her way of keeping her daughter image in her heart and mind, doing what she and people expected to see from her, to give what she had more than to taking.
Eventually we have the answer for the question, what she learned is to give to people more than to have, this is her way in connecting with others and feeling her daughter spirit, in giving she connects with others, in giving she connect with Paula.

Everything has a Price
Weapons are like a double-edged sword. It could harm both sides whither you are defending or assaulting, in the past people have used it in wars to defend and attack people and it has its own price, weapons these days are used in unmoral way, it’s not surprising to hear about a gun shot that happened every time you read the news. Therefore, there is this movement poses that the government should have control on guns and there should intense laws about weapon position, and to whom is it going to be sold to, people are calling for having more laws on guns, people are tired of hearing about little kids getting killed for being in the wrong place and the wrong time, but still people are not seeing the big image of what it would happen if gun became more restricted or even banned.
The U.S have gained their freedom by fighting for it, even if it was war and it had a price, thousands of people were killed during the wars, but they were fighting for the right cause, freedom, so what would happen if those weapons are banned to people and they have taken possession of every weapon that people have, we could be back to the same days when the U.S wasn’t free, it has the same idea in one of the books that I’ve read –The Giver- it’s having a concept about if there was a society with no wars, crimes, or even violence between people, this society was safe, but still they striped them away from the right of being free, they don’t think for them self, they do what they were told to do, everyone has a job since the day he was born, and who ever obey the rules even for a good reason they get punished, that was one of the ideas that could happen that could lead people to forget why their grandfathers fought for, so that everyone have the opportunity that they didn’t have, freedom, thinking for your future, planning what you want to be when you grow up, making decisions.
That was one of the concepts if there were restricted laws about firearms position, but still having some resections won’t harm, not banning them for all of the people, instead we should keep it away from the wrong hands, every week there is a gun shot in the news and the amount of victims are raising, so there must be a problem in the roots, guns laws are not efficient that makes people who have psychological problems or even mental illness, they are not asked if they have any criminal records, we need to keep it away from the wrong hands, also laws should be restricted on the retailers, they should be careful to whom they are selling the weapons to, because not only the people in dangerous but also the people who made a commitment to protect those people are in dangerous.
Eventually, weapons are considered deadly but also used for self-defense, the National Rifle Association says “Guns don’t kill people, people do.’’, we don’t need to ban weapons if we had the right education to people about weapons usage and how they are a devise to protect your-self and not to a toy, they need to learn the responsibility that lays behind it.
