STEP 1: Pick one of the disorders you read about in Chapter 15 and learn more about it in order to make an infographic and write an APA style paper about the disorder. Make sure to choose a specific disorder. For example, there are several eating disorders. Within this category, Anorexia, Bulimia, Binge Eating Disorder, and Pica are possible choices.
Visit the
National Institute of Mental Health (Links to an external site.)
and search for the disorder, read through the information, then scroll to the section on “Research and Statistics” or “Journal Articles or Reports” to find helpful links to peer reviewed journal articles. Look elsewhere (government websites and peer reviewed journal articles) as well for details about the prevalence, signs, symptoms, details, and research related to the disorder. Keep track of all of your sources as you investigate because you will need to provide an APA style references page.
In addition to the textbook, the best source for psychological disorders is the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders: DSM-5. You can access it through our Verdugo campus! It is a source that can only be reserved through the circulation desk and cannot be checked out/taken home. But you can read the information for your chosen disorder and take notes so you can cite it in your paper. I’m sure other libraries have it too.
STEP 2: In a format of your choosing (Canva, Infogram, Photoshop), create an infographic that includes the following information about the disorder:
STEP 3: Starting on a separate page, in complete sentences and APA style writing, describe how each of the following perspectives (found in Chapter 16) would explain and treat this psychological condition and its causes and symptoms. Include a response for ALL perspectives (Minimum of two pages). This portion of the assignment should be formatted as a traditional APA style paper. Do not include this portion in an infographic or PowerPoint format.
