A Synthesis Essay on how is Social Networking affecting our way of living?

Social Networking, having been introduced, has attracted millions of users, many of whom have incorporated these sites into their daily practices. Now it is almost impossible for the users to drift away from this Cyber-Tsunami that has started a decade back, and affecting our way of living like never before. In this article, four possible impacts of social network have been chosen to discuss thoroughly. Like, A. Social Networking tools are becoming an integral part of our lives. B. Current Generation is growing up, vastly using Computer Mediated Communications. C. Usefulness of social media in creating mass awareness and education. D. Problems arising in over-using/adopting the technology of social networking. This factors are, as this research reflects, are the key points as the impact of social media is concerned. Articles from Synthesis grid along with some external sources chosen for this thesis driven essay. A Administrator Do not make references to other assignments in the course. This paper should be written as being independent of your other assignments. The Impact Of Internet Communications On Social Interaction by Brignall, Thomas Wells, Van Valey, Thomas, the article deals with the heavy impact of Computer Mediated Communication and the argument that the Internet will lead to loss of privacy, impersonal communications and isolation. Where the trio Crosier, Benjamin S., Webster, Gregory D.,and Dillon, Haley M. chooses to find an optimistic view in their article Wired to connect: Evolutionary psychology and social networks. Review of General Psychology where they argues that with the advent of super-fast internet schemes, our A Administrator First-person POV cannot be used ability to “connect” is really changing the way we live. From casual chitchat to online dating, from organizing a little hangout to expressing views about political matters, “network ties are the conduits by which information and resources are spread.” The authors Laroche, M, Habibi, MR, Richard, MO. Possesses a view about how brand loyalty is affected by social media? As corporate rules and brand promotion stays at one side of social media integration into our daily lives, the use of internet in creating mass movement is also addressed by this thesis, in the article Citizenship and governance in a wild, wired world: How should citizens and public managers use online tools to improve democracy? By Leighninger, Matt. “How, exactly, is online communication affecting the way people take part in public life, and how are public managers reacting to these challenges and opportunities?” that’s the question the author seeks for answer. On the other hand, Community intelligence and social media services: a rumor theoretic analysis of tweets during social crises, by Oh, Onook, Agrawal, Manish and Rao, H. Raghav addressees two issues: (1) collective social reporting as an information processing mechanism to address crisis problems and gather community intelligence, and (2) the degeneration of social reporting into collective rumor mills. The use of social media in educational and health service purposes have been discussed in Ian Peate’s article the community nurse and the use of social media. And in Creating Changes. International Journal of Learning; by Quevedo, Angelita, Geraldini, Alexandra, Crescitelli, Mercedes. Dan Slater looks through the eye of Cupid in analyzing the modern age Love-Gurus, the dating sites. Social Media is changing how we connect, share, socialize, communicate and feel for our fellow community, the introduction of web 2.0 technology has really revolutionized our way of communication, and the social networks are affecting our lives like never before.
To discuss about social networks’ impact in our day to day life, the penetration and integration of this new age technology in our life, we will A Administrator Who is “we”? discuss our topic in some sub categories. In the first phase the various positive impacts are discussed while in the second phase we will try to move our focus in the negative aspects of social networks. As we divided our four respective answers two points are broadly supporting the positive sides, like A. Social Networking tools are becoming an integral part of our lives and C. Usefulness of social media in creating mass awareness and education. The last answer D. Problems arising in over-using/adopting the technology of social networking clearly indicates the other side of the internet craze and point B. Current Generation is growing up, vastly using Computer Mediated Communications. Is deals somehow in a blurred region where there is a contradiction as if that is healthy or has a dreadful effect and which of the causes outweighs the other. The article by Crosier, Benjamin S., Webster, Gregory D and Dillon, Haley M starts from the invention of social networks and goes on to address the proposed psychological antecedents of network composition, the transition from traditional to online networks and how the two modes differ, the impact of social networks on popular culture, and the future of social networks. Social networks dominate modern life. Social networks have always existed and have been around in non-electronic forms throughout the entirety of our species’ history. It is only recently that the Internet has provided a venue for their electronic explosion. From a nonexistent phenomenon to an incessantly repeated buzzword that permeates the media and is the topic of a major Hollywood film, electronic social networks experience such success because human social behavior has been naturally selected to interface in such a way. Genes and culture relentlessly encourage sociality, and network structure is the grand output of countless interactions in which we engage, from winks to weddings. With the advent of technology that promotes these connections, our innate propensity to connect at a large scale is changing the way we live.2 Social Networking sites provide great means for mass awareness or creating a movement nationwide, it can be recalled that the Tahrir Square revolution started from a single tweet. The issue of combining new technologies with old democratic principles in the day-today work of public decision making and problem solving. Being citizens of Democratic Countries, how can we interact with our political systems using the new advent of technology4, are addressed by Leighninger, Matt, The political unrest and liberation movement, taken place in the Middle East, has also experienced a very significant assist from internet; more specifically the social networking and blogging sites. The organizers have used online tools to gather support, raise money, and mobilize citizens on a massive scale.4 In “Community intelligence and social media services: a rumor theoretic analysis of tweets during social crises” an article by Oh, Onook. Agrawal, Manish. Rao, H. Raghav this social awareness issue is depicted more vividly, connecting the recent terrorism activities and the flood of tweets afterwards and if they are actually useful or not. Recent extreme events show that Twitter, a micro-blogging service, is emerging as the dominant social reporting tool to spread information on social crises. It is elevating the online public community to the status of first responders who can collectively cope with social crises. However, at the same time, many warnings have been raised about the reliability of community intelligence obtained through social reporting by the amateur online community. Using rumor theory, the paper studies citizen-driven information processing through Twitter services using data from three social crises: the Mumbai terrorist attacks in 2008, the Toyota recall in 2010, and the Seattle café shooting incident in 2012. The authors approach social crises as communal efforts for community intelligence gathering and collective information processing to cope with and adapt to uncertain external situations.5 Two issues were addressed (1) collective social reporting as an information processing mechanism to address crisis problems and gather community intelligence, and (2) the degeneration of social reporting into collective rumor mills. Our analysis reveals that information with no clear source provided was the most important, personal involvement next in importance, and anxiety the least yet still important rumor causing factor on Twitter under social crisis situations.5 Social impacts or creating mass effects by social networking sites, does not contain itself in revolutions or politics, rather it finds itself useful in a noble cause like Community Nursing too. The role and function of the community nurse has changed in a number of ways over the years; however, central to that role is the direct hands-on care that expert nurses provide to a variety of client groups. Social media can never replace that unique role yet it can help the community nurse provide safer and more effective care. The use of social media is growing and is having a significant influence on society. Social media can dictate tomorrow’s news today, provide individuals with a public voice and help to form new social connections regardless of geography. Social media has become embedded within our daily lives. For community nurses social media networks offer alternative ways in which they can share knowledge and expertise and keep up to date. The thoughts can be stimulated about how social media could be used positively by the community nurse and his or her organization to help meet the future demands on the NHS and community nursing services.6 Distant education, research works and extensive availability of study materials have been made possible by the use of internet, now a day’s educational sites are providing a social forum for their students to participate learn and maintain a virtual classroom environment together. The information and communication technologies (ICTs) are reaching all social levels and a diverse range of society sectors. New ways of thinking and understanding the world appear as a consequence of virtual communities’ actions and of the ways a multitude of nets articulate information and distant social communication processes. The technological advances reflect upon the significant changes that have influenced and transformed the concept of information and knowledge. Learning in a virtual environment or learning mediated by computers is a reality in many educational institutions that, in doing so, try to provide the student with the tools he will need in his professional career, according to the demands of contemporary society.7 But a lot of problems were faced by the universities worldwide while try to adopt the technology. One case is proposed by Quevedo, Angelita, Geraldini, Alexandra, Crescitelli, and Mercedes in the article “Creating Changes”, “In Brazil, learning in virtual environments is an area that has only begun to attract researchers. We have very few online courses in graduation level and most of our college teachers have not been prepared to teach online.7” The author of this article is interested to integrate the student as an autonomous and active individual responsible for his own learning process, where he will be included in the digital world. An analytic review of teacher qualification program and its various aspects is also been the theme of this article.
Brand Value increase and using social networking sites for advertising is increasing day by day. There is an ongoing debate over the activities of brands and companies in social media. Some researchers believe social media provide a unique opportunity for brands to foster their relationships with customers, while others believe the contrary. Taking the perspective of the brand community building plus the brand trust and loyalty literatures, our goal is to show how brand communities based on social media influence elements of the customer centric model (i.e., the relationships among focal customer and brand, product, company, and other customers) and brand loyalty. A survey-based empirical study with 441 respondents was conducted. The results of structural equation modeling show that brand communities established on social media have positive effects on customer/product, customer/brand, customer/company and customer/other customer’s relationships, which in turn have positive effects on brand trust, and trust has positive effects on brand loyalty. The brand trust has a fully mediating role in converting the effects of enhanced relationships in brand community to brand loyalty.3 Online Dating sites are finding their existence more than ever as the process of Searching for love has been quite evolved since old times, and in the era of internet the Dating sites are becoming quite popular amongst the singles, Thanks to the increasingly efficient algorithms that power these sites like eHarmony, Match, OkCupid, and Plenty of Fish, dating has been transformed like never before. It is only a matter of fact that online dating is changing society by altering our perception of what’s possible, are reconditioning our feelings about commitment and challenging the traditional paradigm of adult life in more profound ways than we imagine. Author Dan Slater explores the world behind the curtain of online dating and its impact on our socio-personal lives.
Brignall, Thomas Wells, Van Valey, Thomas, the trio wants to focus on the “The Impact Of Internet Communications On Social Interaction”, in the author’s words Computer Mediated Communications has a wide range of supporters and detractors. Some individuals argue the Internet will revolutionize social interactions, where others argue that the Internet will lead to loss of privacy, impersonal communications and isolation. There are also those who argue that the Internet is also being presented as a pedagogical tool for changing how public education is delivered. We believe that the Internet is a neutral social structural tool with several positive possibilities. However, the Internet’s extraordinary growth is not without concern. Of particular relevance is the issue of the potential impact of the Internet and computer-mediated communications on the nature and quality of social interaction, especially among young people. This article is an analysis of the possible consequences online communication might have on social interaction rituals. We focus on the current cyber-youth who have grown up with the Internet being a routine part of their everyday life and interaction rituals. A review of current research literature on online interaction and education use of the Internet reveals that in the United States a significant portion of youths are actively using the Internet as an important form of social interaction. This article explores what possible positive and negative outcomes may arise from cyber-youth using the Internet as a primary means of social interaction and how that might influence their development of their interaction ritual skills.1 This eight articles describes the impact of social media on current generations as well as the aged people and how it is influencing the way we live.
The four distinct answers, chosen for our effort, about Social Networking tools becoming an integral part of our lives, the current generation is growing up, vastly using Computer Mediated Communications, which might be useful for distant education and communicating purposes and even in corporate and social affairs but sitting before a laptop for hours is increasing the probability of isolation from the real world. Usefulness of social media in creating mass awareness and education, is also addressed where community nursing service and igniting a revolution by a nation altogether are just two of the many blesses the technology is offering us. Of course problems arising in over-using/adopting the technology of social networking but like every invention there have to be some glitches or downsides also in social networking usages. It is evident that social networking has created one of the greatest impact of modern times, though debatable about its positive and negative impacts, it is beyond argument that in the coming decades we will literally eat breathe and sleep with social networks.
Alexander: I’m sorry that your grade is so low, but your draft (and your approach) to the synthesis research paper needs a significant amount of work. As you can see, I stopped making comments after the first few pages of your draft since the entire draft has an overwhelming amount of problems.
At this point, your discussion is all over the place as you have not identified a specific focus of your research. Another significant problem with the draft is that it fails to synthesize the sources. In order to show that you are synthesizing your sources, you have to discuss relationships among the sources and what is learned through the process of identifying those relationships.
Even though you didn’t receive a passing grade on this draft, you can still pass the course; however, you will need to work with the Effective Writing Center (EWC). The tutors there can help you to work on your approach for the paper, as well as your writing issues (grammar, punctuation, organization, etc.).
