Introduction

This paper describes installation of Windows server 2012 R2 for file and print services. Cybixx has three facilities and is looking to expand its services to another physical location. The company uses a partially centralized IT infrastructure. The infrastructure at Atlanta office include 5 physical Windows 2012 R2 servers, DNS services, DCHP Services, 25 windows 10 desktops, Active directory, A 100 mbps internet connection, and a network 20Mbs connection to the Cybixx MPLS cloud.

Procedure

First before you begin upgrade of windows server 2012 the organization must make several decisions concerning the upgrade. How well the organization plans always determine the success of the upgrade process. Second, the organization must access the minimum hardware requirements for this case Cybixx

The very first step of installing and configuring file and print services is to install v4 drivers. This will benefit the organization as most of client computers are installed with windows 8 and 10 thus they will receive the new printing experience all the advantages of the v4 driver model. To install v4 drivers, the system administrator need to use the print management console. The second step is to install V 3 drivers as it will be necessary to use on a windows server 2012 R2. Step three is to create a shared print queue. This process follows the same process as in windows server 2008 R2. During this step, a local printer must be first installed on the windows server 2012 and then connected to a port. The print queue must then be shared in an order for client computers to discover and connect to it. Step four is to connect to the print queue. This is where the v4 driver comes into aid. By using the v4 driver from a client computer it will install the print queue using the print queue using he print process and enhanced point described previously. If the client computer is on windows 8 or 10 the driver will be downloaded from the windows update feature or the local driver store or the windows software update services. The fifth step is print from windows. In this step is where the system administrator installs the printer from the user computer. In here the system administrator uses the windows 8 shell. The last step is to cater those people in meetings by making use of the windows app. To print a document from windows app. By pressing CTRL + P hotkey it will help activate the new print dialog from any windows app. Once this has been done the system administrator need to install print and document services using the open server manager (Microsoft, 2016).

Lastly, it is important to install document services server role. In here one needs the PowerShell command. Server core installation starts the command prompt by default. One is then required to start the windows PowerShell commands by typing the following commands. To do this one need to have the below commands (Boddenberg, 2016)

PowerShell

Ipmo ServerManager

Add-windowsFeature Print-server

After this the administrator loads the server manager and then installs the Print-Server role. Lastly, restart the server.
