The Group Analysis Report will help you and your group analyze and improve your group’s interactions during the semester.  The purpose of this assignment is to help you translate the concepts studied and apply them to help improve your group dynamics and presentation skills for the Problem-Solving Presentation and in the future.

The Analysis Report is to be discussed by the group together and represents an analysis of how the group reflectively views your group interactions. To maximize the benefit of this assignment, you should be honest with one another about your perceptions of individual contributions as well as the group’s interactions;  in the process of discussing your group, you should reach some conclusions about the group’s overall effectiveness.  Group Analysis Report #1 should reflect the insights, thoughts, and analysis of your group and its members.  Don’t merely explain what has happened to your group, but analyze what has happened and why it happened.  Incorporate specific examples and small group concepts throughout your anlysis and discussion.

Each member must be actively engaged in writing the Group Analysis Report.

Group Analysis Paper

There are two parts to the Group Analysis Paper assignment:

1. Individual Analysis Paper. The Individual Analysis Paper will help you think about your contributions to
the group process and the strengths and weaknesses of your small group dynamics. This assignment will
help prepare each group member to contribute to the Group Analysis Report. Each individual group
member will write a one to two page paper after the Great Debate Presentation, covering the following
topics:

1) your personal, individual contributions to the group
2) strengths of the group interactions (both task and interpersonal)
3) suggestions for improvement in the group interactions (both task and interpersonal)
4) discussion of some small group concepts that help explain the group interactions.

Provide brief examples to support your points. The individual paper is worth 25 points. The paper will be
graded on content, organization, writing style, and mechanics. The paper is due along with the Group
Analysis Report. This paper may not be turned in late.

2. Group Analysis Report. As a group, you will share your analysis and insight about your group
dynamics. Remember this is an analysis assignment. Your explanations should reflect both your
individual and group insights, thoughts, and analysis of your group. Don’t merely explain what has
happened to your group, but analyze why it has happened. Explain WHY your group functions as it does.
Write about what you think is most important to explain why your group functions as it does.

Here are some areas of discussion and small group concepts you may want to think about:
• Effectiveness of Group Formation Presentation and Great Debate Presentation
• How individual contributions impacted the group
• Inputs, throughputs, outputs & environment of your group
• Verbal & nonverbal communication patterns
• Listening
• Norms, roles, group climate
• How diversity impacts your group
• Creative thinking utilized by group
• Critical thinking – gathering & evaluating information, source citation
• Strengths & weaknesses of your group meetings
• Goals & suggestions for improvement (group meetings & final presentation)

Each group should print their Group Log and turn it in with the Group Paper. If an individual group
member does not contribute to the Group Paper, the group will not include that individual’s name on
the cover page. The Group Paper should be 3 – 5 pages and is worth 50 points.
