Successful businesses regularly analyze their processes to ensure they’re operating as efficiently as possible and maintaining their competitive advantages. Although you can assess a company in many ways, a common technique is the SWOT analysis. In this assessment, you will use a SWOT analysis to better understand the factors involved in making business decisions that promote sustainable competitive advantage.  

Assessment Preparation

Select and research a company from the 2023 Fortune 500 list that demonstrates a sustainable competitive advantage in the marketplace. This should be a different company than the one you selected in Week 2.

Evaluate the selected company’s sustainable competitive advantage using the SWOT analysis technique.

Write a 700- to 1,050-word modified SWOT analysis that includes the following:

  • Introduction: Provide a detailed description of the company.
  • SWOT Diagram: Include a diagram with strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Ensure that your SWOT analysis reflects the unique aspects of the company rather than generic examples.

  • Internal Analysis: 
  • Evaluate how specific internal factors identified as strengths and weaknesses contribute to the company’s competitive advantage. Focus on the unique internal aspects of your company rather than pre-defined examples, such as but not limited to, resources or current processes. 
  • External Analysis: 
  • Analyze what impact specific external factors identified as opportunities and threats have on the company’s ability to maintain its competitive advantage. Ensure that your analysis is tailored to the specific external factors you have identified for your company. These may include, but are not limited to, market and economic trends, artificial intelligence (AI) implementation and use, demographics, and regulations. 
  • Conclusion: Assess how effectively the company leverages its SWOT characteristics to retain its competitive advantage.
  • Include APA-formatted in-text citations and a references page with at least 2 sources. You may include your textbook as 1 of the sources.
