In the discussion week 1 you were tasked to identify a
men’s and women’s College/University basketball team
that you would be working with throughout the course
(Tennessee Vols Men’s and Women’s Basketball
Team).
For this assignment you will be designing an Athlete
Assessment Plan for both teams. Use the
College/University web site to correctly identify the
Men’s and Women’s Basketball Team’s Head Coaches
and the Men’s and Women’s Basketball Team’s Head
Athletic Trainer(s). Often larger Colleges/Universities
have a unique Head Athletic Trainer for both teams.
For this assignment you will pretend that you are the
Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for both the
Women’s and the Men’s Basketball teams. As the Head
Strength and Conditioning Coach you will work with the
assistance and input of the Head Men’s and Women’s
Basketball Coaches and the Head Men’s and Women’s
Basketball Athletic Trainer(s) to develop an Athlete
Assessment Plan.
This plan will be unique to each team and will involve
looking into the assessment data needs of the Head
Strength Coach, the Head Basketball Coach, and the
Head Trainer for each team. Sex of the Athlete is a
major consideration for your Athlete Assessment Plan.
Also, past athlete performance, team performance,
common injuries, and performance expectations at the
highest competition level possible, including the
professional level, must also be considered.
You are required to include assessments from the
following areas:

• Physiological
• Postural
• Transitional and Dynamic Posture
• Performance
• Strength
• Power
• SAQ
• Metabolic
These Assessments are located within PES, Chapter 3;
CES Chapters 4, 5, & 6.

readings as primary sources, list the demands of the
sport of basketball, define the goals of the Athlete
Assessment Plan within and a brief overview, 2 to 4

athlete. Also, with all assessments, a reference of
protocol must be provided. For example, the
physiological assessment of resting heart rate protocol
can be found on page 87, of McGill, E., Montel, I.,
(2019). NASM Essentials of Performance Training
