NOTE: All submission posting times are based on midnight Central Time. Contract negotiations are generally an intense process for both unions and management. Preparing for a contract negotiation requires diligence and understanding the opposite side of the process. The HR representative who most often is responsible for preparing the organization for contract negotiations is the labor relations specialist. Assume that you are a labor relations specialist in a Midwest, midsized manufacturing plant. You will be preparing a strategy to get your upper managers ready to begin the bargaining process. You want to educate them on the entire process, so you prepare a presentation 5-7 PP slides (not including title page and reference slides); and 250 words of speaker notes that addresses the following: Explain the steps in the negotiation process. Describe the roles and responsibilities of the union and management in the process.Develop a strategy for the management team on how to approach this negotiation.Discuss the types of issues that are typically addressed in labor negotiations.Develop a few examples of negotiation strategies and fallback positions. |
