By: Kouloughli Ghizlene
Academic Year 2017/2018
The Sweet Poison !!
WAR
IS DECLARED !
The Most Dangerous Types of Sugar
Granulated sugar
*the most common type of refined
sugars.
*consumed by many on a regular basis
and is found in most homes.
*used in baking and cooking .
*commonly sold in bags at the local
grocery store.
Sanding Sugar
• Sanding sugar is slightly more
coarse than granulated sugar
• Generally used for cake decoration
and desserts.
Powdered Sugar
* It has a much smoother texture
than the other types.
*commonly used in dessert
toppings.
* It mixes easily and creates a
smooth product.
Super-Refined Sugar
• Often used in commercial food
products like Sodas.
• This kind of sugar is also often
used in pie meringues, because it
dissolves quickly and give a smooth
texture to food.
Eat less sugar if you
want to live longer !
How Sugar Affects our Health
Sugar makes you feel hungry
In a study by Yale University, those that consumed sugar had an
INCREASED appetite and desire for more food.
 Your Body Asks for More Calories !
Reason
:Sugar consumption blocks leptin
from doing its job and raises insulin.
Sugar Affects Body Ph
• A daily dose of sugar causes pH levels resulting in a more acidic body.
• It is believed that an acidic environment is a breeding ground for disease.
Sugar And Weight Gain
Sugar is the definition of empty calories.
SUGAR :no real nutritional value,
no nutrients,
no minerals,
no proteins,
and no fiber.
Sugar causes belly fat
Numerous studies have
shown direct links from
sugar to increased
accumulation of belly fat.
Sugar Contributes to Diabetes
• Free sugar = sugar that isn’t bound to fiber in fruit,
can lead to inflammation, blood sugar instability
….and, over a period of time
Type 2 diabetes.
Sugar is addictive Similar to drugs like
cocaine
• It causes a very similar
release of dopamine in the
brain.
• Studies on neuroplasticity
have shown that drug users
have similar behavioral
addictions to those addicted
to sugar.
Sugar Can Ruin Your Teeth
• The American Journal of clinical nutrition: sugar
destroys the healthy bacteria in our mouth.
=>tooth erosions and dim that bright smile !
It is a lot harder to tell a 5 year old
that refined sugar is addictive
and that is the reason
they want it! so bad!
How Sugar affects Our Liver
• An abundance of added sugar may cause your liver to become resistant to insulin,
an important hormone that helps turn sugar in your bloodstream into energy. This
means your body isn’t able to control your blood sugar levels as well, which can
lead to type 2 diabetes.
Sugar and Aging
• Sugar has no nutrition value of its own
i.e It is of no use to the body’s cells
+ No contribution to growth or repair
Sugar Raises your Cholesterol Level
It Ain’t The Fat… It’s
Sugar That Raises Your
Cholesterol and Gives
You Heart Disease
Sugar Causes Heart Disease
• Sugar, NOT fat, may be one of the leading drivers
of heart disease via the harmful effects of
fructose on metabolism.
• Large amounts of fructose can
raise triglycerides, blood glucose
and insulin levels and increase
abdominal obesity .
Sugar Harms Your Pancreas
• Pancreas pumps out
insulin.But eating too
much sugar won’t let your
body respond properly to
insulin.Thus ,it will pump
out more insulin.
Sugar Causes Cancer
• Cancer cells thrive on sugar.
• Sugar “feeds” cancer cells.
• Many doctors tell their
patients to abstain from
sugar because this literally
starves cancer cells.
Sugar Affects Our Brain
• The “feel-good” chemical
(dopamine).
• your brain starts to need
more and more sugar to get
that same feeling of pleasure.
Sugar Has Many Hidden Sources
When you consume sugar, your
body has two options on how to
deal with it:
EITHER
• Burn it for energy !
OR
• Convert to fat and store it in your fat cells !
ONE PROBLEM : there’s a LOT more room for
fat storage, and a lot less room to burn the sugar
as energy.
