Assignment 1:
Option A
If you have an iOS device you would be ok with imaging with Magnet Acquire, feel free to replicate the process that was shown in the video lecture for this week. From there write up a brief report on the process you took to create the forensic image. Make sure citation are used if external sources are leveraged to show what you did. On the flip side of this coin, if you are willing to jailbreak the iOS device to create a physical image feel free to explain that process as well and show your steps/results.
Option B
If you do not have an iOS device that you can image or you do not wish to image your own, feel free to write up a technical report of how a logical image and a physical image are captured along with the steps needed to do so. Writing format and requirements are the same as above.
Assignment 2:
You will use your own forensic image that you made and analyze it whether it be a iOS backup, logical, or physical acquisition. From here write down the process/tools used to analyze the image. Make sure to also include artifacts that were analyzed and the importance behind them. Please again make sure to use citations when referencing external sources to backup your thoughts.
Assignment 3:
For this assignment your tasks are going to be similar to the iOS assignment with acquisitions. Except this time I want you to use Android Studio in order to create a mobile VM of your choosing. From here I want you to create a logical image of the VM with a few artifacts that you put into it. As an example you may put the following artifacts in:
1. photos.
2. email contacts.
3. extra apps (i.e games, social apps, and anything else you may want to download).
4. try and send a few message or make a few phone calls with the device (if its a phone of course).
5. anything else you can think of.
If you would like to receive 10 pts of extra credit, try to acquire a physical image of the device through the process of rooting.
Make sure to thoroughly document your process, don’t forget, write like you are presenting evidence in regards to a court case to me. Think about all of the artifacts that may be useful to prove your evidence is legitimate. Again you may use any citation format you would like and there is no page or word limit.
Assignment 4:
In this assignment you will be analyzing the forensic image that you made of the Android device in order to locate the artifacts that you have created. Explain the location these artifacts were found in, how they could be leveraged in a case, and if possible what unique entries were made in the database of a corresponding artifact. I want you to use the reporting template I uploaded to complete this task in order to grow your report writing skills. Again there is no page length or preferred citation format, just make sure you use the proper citations when leveraging a specific format.
Assignment 5:
For this assignment I want you to select a drone case from the following Google Drive (

). Once you find one open the folder and download the forensic image or images and use the forensic tools you have learned about such as Magnet Axiom, FTK Imager, and so on so forth to figure out what information you can uncover from the case with regards to drones. Feel free to write a short paper with regards to this evidence and how it could help within an investigation. This is an exploratory assignment so if you only write about one or two pieces of evidence that could be pertinent that is perfectly alright.
