In the Latin the word cult means “to worship” or give “worth to something”. This is where we get our words culture and cultivate. To have a culture requires a group of people giving worth to something. Through that culture the leaders cultivate, improve by training, and education the minds of the followers within that culture. So, in other words a cult begins with one person or family that gives worth to something and then they proselytize a group of people to follow them through training. Some would call this training “brainwashing.” Religions we consider to be normal today were once considered cults such as the Baptist, Nation of Islam, Scientology, and Jehovah Witness. Your assignment is to research and discuss three religious cults that once was or still is considered to be one. Explain why society views them the way they do. Give a brief history of the:1.) Founder2.) Sacred texts3.) Religious Acts4.) How many people follow this religion?5.) Viewpoints on the after life? You should write 200 words on each religion that you choose. Also, you need to respond to someone else’s submission. Once completed, e-mail me and let me know that you are finished so I can grade it. If you have any questions just e-mail me. Good luck! Please use MLA style and try to cite at least 1 source for each cult you research.
