Recent Innovations in IT Security

 

1. This assignment requires you to write an essay about an account of a recent innovation in IT security. This could be a new attack, or a new defense, or a new technology.

2. Your essay should describe the innovation, and discuss some stakeholders, and how they are affected by the innovation.

3. The innovation must have been first reported in 2010 or later.
We expect that a good essay can be provided in about 1500-2000 words.

1. There are 4 marks for the description of the innovation:

To gain 2 out of 4, you will need to show a good knowledge of the relevant material. To gain 3 out of 4 you will need to show that you have integrated the knowledge into a coherent understanding of the topic, and of how it differs from the previous state-of-the-art. Full mark is available for truly outstanding work.

2. There are 4 marks for description of the security impact on stakeholders:

To gain 2 out of 4, you will need to show awareness of a range of stakeholders (not missing any important ones), and identify some of their security needs relevant to the innovation. To gain 3 out of 4 you will do the above, and show sophisticated analysis of the way the innovation will impact on the security goals of the stakeholders; as well, you will identify potential conflicts between their needs, or difficulties in meeting their needs. Full mark is available for truly outstanding work.

3. There are 2 marks for the organization of your essay.
