The concepts of transformational leadership and adaptable leadership are the two theories of
leadership that I have chosen to investigate and compare with the concept of adaptive leadership.
(Geier. 2016), one of the feature of transformational leadership that is considered to be among the
most significant is the ability to connect with employees or followers in a manner that increases the
level of morality as well as the level of motivation. In accordance with the leadership theory known as
transformational leadership, it is expected of leaders that they would exhibit a commitment to the
overall health and happiness of their followers as a collective. To the contrary, the adaptive leadership
theory indicates the mobilization of followers or workers in order to cope with current obstacles or
issues and emerge successful in the end (Geier, 2016).
There are two types of difficulties, the most frequent of which are technically based and adaptable in
character, according to the concept of adaptive leadership. The most prevalent of these issues are
described below. Technical challenges are problems such as mechanical issues that can be resolved
by professionals. When we speak about technical difficulties, we are talking to these kinds of
problems. Adaptive problems, on the other hand, do not have any certified professionals to deal with
them, nor do they have any guidelines that can be utilized to deal with them in any way. Adaptive
problems are characterized by the fact that they are very adaptable. As a result of this, it is exactly
these types of problems that need the ability to exercise adaptive leadership. An example of this
would be the pandemic that was brought on by the COVID virus, which has had a range of
repercussions on enterprises. It is exactly in situations like these that adaptive leadership is required
(Geier, 2016).
For the purpose of illustrating how adaptive leadership models may be used to solve a situational
problem in a company, I have thought it would be appropriate to use situational issues as an example.
I have decided to take into account this particular case of adaptable leadership models since it is one
of the key examples presented here. The problem may be addressed by management via the
implementation of solutions that can be carried out through the use of organizational procedures that
are already in place (Geier, 2016). Instances of situational challenges include issues such as
technology problems, which make it possible for management to find a solution to the existing
problem. To give you an example, I remember that there was a time when the head of the information
technology department used this type of leadership in order to find a solution to a problem that, if it
had been left untreated, might have resulted in the loss of millions of dollars for the company. Using
this style of leadership, a manager is able to take use of norms that have already been established in
order to discover a solution to a problem. For example, the accounting problem that was resolved in
our business the year before was one example of this leadership style.

At the core of a company, leadership is responsible for governing all of the many layers of
management that are responsible for the operations of the organization. The nature of the current
corporate environment is such that it is always shifting, and as a result, there is an increasing need for
leaders who are able to demonstrate a leadership style that is adaptable in order to ensure the
continuous survival of businesses. There are a great deal of parallels between transformational
leadership and adaptive leadership, but there are also a great deal of distinctions between the two
types of leaders. Companies that prioritize the rapid implementation of new business processes and
improvements and make it a priority to keep up with continuous technological development and
advancement are good candidates for both transformational leadership and adaptive leadership styles
of leadership, (Amanchukwu, Stanley, and Ololube, 2015). Their findings indicate that these types of
companies are good candidates for both styles of leadership. Furthermore, in order to achieve the
highest possible level of effectiveness, each of these leadership styles need the collaboration of a
group of people as well as the use of strategic timing. Adaptive leadership, on the other hand, places
an emphasis on the leader’s interaction with the environment around them, whereas transformational
leadership places an emphasis on the connection that the leader has with the people who follow
them. This is the primary distinction between the two theories of leadership on the subject of
leadership.
There are two types of leadership: adaptive leadership and transformational leadership. Adaptive
leadership requires people and enterprises to be able to adjust and prosper in tough environments,
while transformational leadership requires active participation and engagement in order to transition
through change. In the framework of the modern business world, companies often confront
challenges that need prompt resolution in order to prevent further escalation of the problematic
situation. It is possible that situational issues will have a significant influence on the resolution of
difficulties in Saudi Arabian enterprises, depending on the conditions which are present. (
Amanchukwu, Stanley, and Ololube 2015) state that when leaders are confronted with situational
challenges, they frequently demonstrate the understanding and capabilities necessary to analyze a
scenario that is facing the company and to create the appropriate leadership method to manage or
control the circumstance. This statement is based on the fact that leaders frequently demonstrate
these capabilities. This method is often considered to be among the most successful leadership
methods that are now available. This is due to the fact that it is quite effective in resolving the issues
that are encountered by organizations. As soon as a leader becomes aware of the issue at hand, they
are compelled to adjust their leadership style in order to make it suitable for the specific situation that
they are in. It may be possible to assist the establishment of a suitable equilibrium for the whole
organization by doing an analysis of the issue in order to determine whether it is considered to be
technical or adaptive.

I received question based on my post
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the model of adaptive leadership you selected and how that
model can be utilized to address an issue or problem within your chosen organization
How do traditional leadership theories address resistance to change compared to adaptive
leadership?
My post was as below
Introduction
The success of organizations depends on their leaders’ capacity to align the interests of
their followers to those of their organization. However, organizations face different challenges
that require innovative responses to maintain their productivity. The type of leadership
determines how best an organization deals with uncertain circumstances. The paper compares
adaptive leadership with transformational leadership theories. Besides, the paper uses the
adaptive work model of adaptive leadership to show how it can help resolve Aramco’s survival
and competitiveness.
Comparison of Adaptive Leadership and Transformational Leadership Theory
One of the primary similarities that are evident in transformational and adaptive
leadership is the engagement of followers by their leadership. In adaptive leadership, the leader
engages followers to find a solution as a team whenever they are faced with a problem (Rizvi,
2023). Transformational leadership, on the other hand, inspires the followers to
maintain a focused vision of a common goal (Korejan & Shahbazi, 2016). The focus
ensures that followers are committed to solving problems as a team whenever they
come. Nevertheless, the leadership theories differ in their approach to uncertainties.
Adaptive leadership requires leaders to remain open-minded to new challenges and
use creativity to resolve them. Therefore, the leadership encourages innovativeness
among followers to develop new solutions to respond to changing market dynamics.
In contrast, transformational leadership emphasizes proper planning for the future,
and followers follow laid procedures to meet the set common goal.
One of the primary adaptive models is adaptive work, where leadership activities are
adaptable to changes in the market or technology dynamics. The model ensures that leaders
change their strategies to fit the existing needs or paths, which give the highest returns.
Adaptive work can apply to companies such as Aramco. Aramco is one of the largest oilproducing and selling companies in the Middle East and has markets across the globe (Aramco,
2024). However, the company faces new challenges in the global market from the calls
by international communities to fight climate change. Fossil fuel is among the leading
contributors of greenhouse gasses and the threatened continued adverse experience
of climate change in the world (United Nations, n.d.). An adaptable works model is
necessary for the company to ensure that it responds to the new market demands and
possible decline of global oil demand in the future. The model is necessary to ensure
that the leaders and the employees think of new investments or ventures that promote
green energy. The company must adapt to such demand to remain relevant in the
market and survive campaigns that call for a reduction in reliance on fossil fuels
globally. Adaptive leadership will support the company’s flexibility to invest in green
energy and become a major player in the industry.
Conclusion
Adaptive leadership ensures that leaders remain flexible to changes in the market and
respond appropriately. Adaptive leadership compares with the transformational leadership
model in their role of engaging employees in decision-making. However, the models differ in
that the adaptive model is reactive to present dynamics, while the transformational focuses on
preparing for the future. A company such as Aramco is required to embrace adaptive leadership
theory to shift its focus from fossil fuels to promoting green energy. The strategy will support
the company’s survival amidst pressure for companies to support efforts to tackle climate
change.
