Assignment Details: For this assignment, you will create a prompt to generate a news article on a topic of your
choice, use Generative AI to answer the prompt and write the news article, identify a real news article that
answers the prompt, and compare the two results In comparing the two, you will need to cite the genuine news
article and the Generative AI created news article appropriately. The goal is to identify when using Generative
AI is appropriate and the correct way to cite it as a source to avoid Academic Integrity violations.
Note: Use of Generative AI is permitted for Step 2 and initial comparisons in Step 4. Generative AI use is
not permitted to write the comparison paper.
Step 1: Create a prompt!
• For this Assignment, you will ask ChatGPT (or Generative AI product of your choice) to write you a
news article in response to a prompt.
• You will then search for a genuine news article in response to the same prompt.
• For example purposes, see the prompt below (note: this will not be permitted to be used as your
prompt).
• Create your prompt!
Sample Prompt: Write a news article about the pitfalls of students using Artificial Intelligence.
Step 2: Use Generative AI to answer your prompt!
• Put your prompt in your choice of Generative AI

Copy the AI generated news article and paste it in a blank document. Save the document as
AI_Generated_Article. You will need to submit his as part of your Assignment 5 submission materials.

Please read the AI Generated article fully, and make sure it is saved. You will need to submit this as
part of Assignment 5 in the designated areas in Canvas.
Step 3: Find a genuine new article answering your prompt!
• Google is probably the best place to start. When you Google your prompt, you can use the “News”
option in Google.

Select an article that interests you and answers the question you posted in your prompt.
Please read the article fully. Make sure you save the article because you will need to submit this as
part of Assignment 5 in the designated areas in Canvas.

To save the article, find the “print” option. When the print dialogue box appears, select the destination
“Save as PDF.” Save the document as News_Article.pdf
Step 4: Compare and Contrast the two articles!
• It is now time to compare the articles.

some insight.
Finally, in a document titled Comparison you will answer the following questions:
o Analyze the writing styles of the two articles. How does the AI-written article differ from the
genuine news article in terms of tone, clarity, and persuasiveness?
o Evaluate the effectiveness of each article in addressing the topic of your prompt? Which article
provides a stronger case and why?
o Reflect on your own perspective. Which article did you find more convincing, and what factors
influenced your judgment?
o Be sure to properly cite information from each article – information on proper citations can be
found in the presentation given by your Library Guest Speaker in Week 2.
