System Modeling – CIS 331 Fall 2012

Research Paper Requirement: Conduct research on the following topic. Data and Decision
Analysis in System Modeling. Define, state importance, and discuss the relevance to the
study of analyzing data and the decision making process. Additionally, please provide tools
in support of both areas and ways to optimize tool utilization.
Class during this class we will discuss and research many topics regarding system
modeling, spreadsheets, data analysis, decision analysis, and others in this course. For this
research project, you are required to complete a research paper constructed and
implemented by conducting a refined information search using various resources (the
University Learning Resource Center (LRC) collections and services, scholarly journals in
a field of study, the World Wide Web, and online database or other sources appropriate to
the topic). Additionally, select relevant and valid information sources, while utilizing this
information ethically and legally avoiding plagiarism and composing proper APA
references, synthesizing this information to reach informed conclusions with supporting
rationale, and present the conclusions in a research paper.
American Psychological Association (APA) Style: All written work submitted by students
in this course must confirm to the most recent APA guidelines for referencing, in text
citations, appendices, and/or any means of crediting an outside source.
Week 10: Turn in the final copy of your research paper. The paper should be a minimum
of 6-8 pages in length. Also to be included are a title page and a bibliography/reference
page. The paper is to be in the APA format and edited by the student for grammar, spelling
and punctuation.
Additional requirements: The paper is to be typed, double-spaced, 12 font, using Times
New Roman type.
NOTE: One of the criteria that you will be graded on is the quality of your answers, the
logic/organization of the report, your language skills, and your writing skills. This paper
will be graded using the rubric provided in the syllabus. Please be sure to complete and
submit the final research paper during Week 10. The research paper is due on Saturday
(15 December 2012) of Week 10.
