Our Final Assessment will take place on Thurs. Feb. 9th. You may choose to complete the Assessment during any
3
-hr window of time on that day.
To help you prepare, I recommend that you draft answers to the FOUR Short Answer Questions shared below in advance.
TWO of the questions will ask you to upload original labeled drawings to help illustrate various concepts and relationships. Like the Short Answer Questions, I recommend that you make your drawings and create electronic file out of them in advance. The following formats will be accepted: jpg, png, gif, pdf, doc, ppt.
In addition, there will also be somemultiple choice and matching questions AND one that asks you to record a short video.
Should you have any questions, I am happy to respond. =)

SHORT ANSWER QUESTION #
1
Name and definethe three heat properties of water.
Quantifyeach of the three heat properties. Please give appropriate units.
Compare the three heat properties and explain how they relate to the addition or removal of heat and the resulting change in temperature or phase of matter at a molecular level.
Use what you know about the heat properties of water to explain why an increase in atmospheric temperature is not the only consequence of global climate change.

SHORT ANSWER QUESTION #4
The map below shows two starred locations labeled “A” and “B”. They are located at the same latitude in the same ocean basin, yet they experience different weather and climate.
In your own words, use the models of atmospheric and oceanic circulation to explain WHY these two locations experience different weather and climate.
In you answer identify where you would expect the following to occur and why:
high atmospheric pressure vs. low atmospheric pressure
the prevalence of hurricanes and typhoons
upwelling vs. downwelling
effects of wind direction
effects of ocean surface currents
