NUTR 3300- DIGESTION AND ABSORPTION ACTIVITY
Part 1- DIGESTIVE MAP—Be sure to review powerpoint prior to completing.
Using the table provided—fill in the steps during the digestion and absorption of a turkey sandwich with
turkey, lettuce and mayo on whole wheat bread with chips and glass of low fat milk. Start with the food
component. Be sure to remember that some foods may have fat, protein and CHO (hint: Milk)-so you would
need to put them in multiple columns; Color coding may help to make sure your diagram is clear to read.
**PLEASE NOTE: I have included an example in “red” on the attached worksheet table.
Include the following:
1) Anatomy:
Label the diagram first with major digestive components; briefly state the major role or each

b. Esophagus
c. Stomach
d. Small intestine: duodenum, jejunum, ileum
e. Large intestine
f. Accessory Organs- liver, gallbladder, pancreas
Ex) Mouth- food is chewed and bolus is formed

a. Label the locations where each food item starts the digestive process: Carbohydrate, Protein
and Fat
Ex) Whole wheat bread is a Carbohydrate (CHO) which starts in the mouth
