Lab3Wireless Networking Lab

Objective

The objective of this lab exercise will be for the student to gain experience conducting a wireless networking site survey.

The objective is for each person to propose a wireless networking solution for the space of your home, place of business, or a virtual/invented/pretend business of a min/max of 1000/6000 square feet. If possible, verify that you can establish link (by pinging) with another device in your network.

Required

Each person will be creating a floor plan of the area being surveyed. Use this to log measurements for wireless availability. You may place access points at any available connection point with an electrical outlet or with a network connection. You can assume that a Power over Ethernet connection is available.

Each group is required to prepare a technical report regarding the findings of the wireless networking survey. Your report must include the following:

1. A memo to the boss that describes the task assigned to you, the findings of your site survey, and your recommendation(s). (2 points)
2. A drawing (8 ½” X 11”) of the proposed locations of the access points. (1 point)
3. A list of the wireless networking equipment and estimated cost for providing wireless networking to the surveyed area. (3 points)
4. Submit your original floor plan used to conduct the site survey. (4 points)
5. Create and compile documents and submit as one PDF via this dropbox.
