Reflection Question:

How have you seen health care and/or health policy portrayed in media? Overall, do you think that the portrayal has been positive, negative, or a mix? Please share examples.

Application Question:

Consider the role of the media in the COVID-19 pandemic and policies to address the pandemic. Think also about subsequent pandemics (avian, monkeypox, etc.) and what has changed since the COVID-19 pandemic.

• What do you think went right with how the media covered COVID pandemic and the policies local, state, federal, and international governments enacted? What went wrong? What problems arose from the media coverage and what was solved (at least partially)?
• Think about an ongoing or recent pandemic. It might be a coronavirus, monkeypox, avian flu, HIV/AIDS, or something else trending. If you had the opportunity tomorrow to talk with a news reporter (your choice of media), what would you recommend to this reporter in terms of covering health policy related to this health issue?
