MBA 650, McAllister, Homework Assignment #2: (worth 10 points)
The following facts are adapted from a real event involving my friend, Jason Jones:
Jason, a freshman at Coastal Carolina, is new to Myrtle Beach. For the past few years, Jason has
been wan ng to get a ta oo on his arm, but his parents, who live in Boston, have not allowed him.
Now that Jason is on his own, hundreds of miles away from his parents, he gures now is the me.
One Friday evening, Jason drives to Seaboard Street in Myrtle Beach, where there are nearly a
dozen ta oo parlors, and parks his Honda Civic in the parking lot next to Pork Chop Ta oos. Jason
walks up to Pork Chop and tries to open the door, but it is locked. As Jason a empts to peer inside
the door’s darkly nted window, two men, Wayne and Bruno, approach Jason from behind and tell
him that Pork Chop is now conduc ng its opera ons “outside in the back, because of a Covid scare
inside the store.” When Jason glances over at the next ta oo parlor down the street, Dr. Ink
Ta oo, Wayne o ers to walk Jason around back, telling him, “Look, those other guys are really
expensive, and anyone I recommend to Pork Chop will get 50% o today, so come with me.” A
ta oo is a ta oo, Jason gures, so why not give it a try.
Rounding the corner of the building, Jason is surprised to see nothing out back, other than a dark
van with nted windows. Before Jason has me to collect his thoughts, Bruno points a gun at
Jason’s head and orders him to get in the van and hand over his cell phone. Afraid for his life,
Jason enters the van and hands his cell phone to Bruno. With Wayne driving and Bruno si ng in
the back of the van with Jason, Bruno demands Jason’s wallet, which he reluctantly hands over.
Looking inside Jason’s wallet, Bruno discovers $325 in cash, which he pockets, and a Bank of
America debit card, which he also takes. Bruno then returns Jason’s wallet to him. Bruno no ces
that the name on Jason’s debit card is Ashley Jones, whereas the name on the New York driver’s
license in Jason’s wallet is Jason Jones. Figuring the debit card belongs to Jason’s mother, Bruno
then directs Wayne to drive to the nearest Bank of America ATM to withdraw cash from Jason’s
account. Bruno then orders Jason to give him his debit card pin number. When Jason hesitates,
Bruno tells him that he “be er not try anything funny, because we have killed several people in
California and the Waccamaw River would be a great place to dump your body.”
As instructed, Wayne drives to the nearest Bank of America ATM. A er Jason gives Bruno his debit
card pin number (9855), Bruno exits the van and withdraws $400 from the drive-up ATM, the
maximum withdrawal amount permi ed. Just then, Jason’s cell phone rings, startling Bruno.
Seizing the distrac on as an opportunity, Jason jumps out of the van and runs into the nearby
woods. As Jason darts through the trees, Bruno res one bullet at Jason, striking him in the
forearm. Bruno then res one more bullet at Jason, but it misses Jason, and he manages to get
away. A few hours later, police arrest Wayne and Bruno, who were found hiding out in the woods.
Unfortunately for Jason, the cash taken from both his wallet ($325) and the ATM ($400) is never
found. However, upon arres ng Wayne, police discover Jason’s debit card in Wayne’s back packet
and return the card to Jason. Although Jason’s cell phone is found as well, it is completely crushed,
apparently from being stomped on, and no longer works with no hope of repair. Finally, Jason was
