2. The following data give the drying time T of a certain paint as a function of the amount of
a certain additive A. Find the first second, third, and fourth-degree polynomials that fit the
data and plot each polynomial with the data. Set limits 0 and 10 on the x-axis and limits
0 and 150 on the y-axis. Determine the quality of the curve fit for each by computing J.
Note: You have to use for-loops to perform the above. Any other form of solution will
not be given credit.

b. You have to do YOUR OWN WORK.
1. A copper sphere 25mm in diameter, initially at 300°C is immersed in a bath at 0°C. The
following table gives measurements of the sphere’s temperature versus time. Use the subplot
command to see all three rectilinear, logarithmic, and semi-logarithmic plots of the following
data right next to each other. Then, fit the following data on an approximated linear line
and find the equation of the said line.

3. Obtain the surface and contour plots for the function z = -22 +234 +3 using the subplot
command with the orientation of one being on top of the other. Label all of your axis. This
surface has the shape of a saddle. At its saddlepoint at x = y=0, the surface has zero slope,
but this point does not correspond to either a minimum or maximum. What type of contour
lines correspond to a saddlepoint?
