ASSIGNMENT 3

I hope your week is off to a good start.  As usual, I loved reading your posts – I’m very impressed with this  class. Thanks for making it a great semester so far!

1)  View below two images of contemporary art. You are asked to compare the  work of contemporary art to a piece of art in Chapters 26 and 27.  Please be sure to review the information in the lectures and in the book  on the artwork in Chapters 26 and 27 for a full understanding of the  pieces.

2) Before looking up  any information about the contemporary artworks, please respond to them.  What do you think the artist(s) are trying to say in their work? How  are they responding to the historical artwork in Chapters 26 and 27? I  am looking for context and meaning here. I’m not grading you on whether  or not you interpret the piece the way the artist(s) think you should,  so please take your best shot at interpretation.

3)  Do a little bit of research. Please look up the contemporary artworks  and artist(s). Did your interpretation align with what they said was  their goal/statement about the work they created? If not, tell me how  their statement about the work was different than yours.

4) Please read and respond to one other student’s post about this discussion topic. Be polite and considerate in your interaction with others, please.

This  is fairly straightforward, but if you have any questions, please email  me. Your original post is worth 10 points, your response to another  student is worth 5 points. You must do both in order to get the full 15  points on this assignment.
