At one time or another most clinicians make use of therapeutic modalities. From the use of a simple procedure such as ice massage, to more complex techniques such as biofeedback or lumbar traction, therapeutic modalities are important adjuncts to active therapy as we strive to promote healing and optimize a patient’s function. In spite of its popularity in the clinical field, the benefits of modalities also find many skeptics and detractors among practitioners.
