Management is the key factor for a company to be successful in business because it determines how the company uses its capital to improve the quality of its products and services. However, there are a lot of ways that managers can manage their subordinates and the influences of the management styles differ. Throughout the interviews, we examined how we can manage people effectively while we would be able to improve workers’ motivation and incentives to work. This essay will provide four significant elements of good management we found during our interviews.
First, respect and open-mindedness are important to let subordinates increase their communication and make them more creative. Two interviewees, Ms. Tonegawa, and Mr. Satoshi who works for the design industry mentioned that since they treat professionals in design, it is important for them to act as professionals and let them be confident enough to share their opinions. Ms. Tonegawa mentions that good managers can make their subordinates feel like they are doing what they want to do because they can think of themselves as professionals by doing that. By giving confidence, the employees work independently with their ideas and strategies to complete their aim. She also said it is helpful that an employee has one specific professional skill or point to get innovative and ideal ideas. Mr. Satoshi also said a similar thing to Ms. Tonegawa. He argues that by respecting his subordinate and being open-minded to their opinions, his subordinate can easily contribute to their design projects. For design industries, all of the people who work in the industry are professionals who were educated and experienced throughout their artwork. Therefore, making them professionals and letting them be creative is the key to increasing the performance of the organization. According to other interviewees who work for the financial industry, they use “friendship or flat style management”. Subordinates can communicate with their managers more openly when their relationships with their managers are similar to friendships. Therefore, the management style with respect and openness allows managers to know more about what their subordinates do and how they feel about their work and working environment throughout communications.
