Health Professional Interview: SAMPLE of a GOOD report
For my report, I interviewed B____ who is a Licensed Massage Practitioner (LMP). Her work contact information is: phone______, email_____, address ______. She is a Massage Therapist and Spa Specialist. Some of the types of massages she does are Swedish, deep tissue, pregnancy massage, reflexology foot treatment, and a basic treatment. Some of the types of spa treatments she does are body wraps, detox anti-cellulite, exfoliation, hot stone and chair, and aroma therapy.
She went to Everest College which is a vocational school in Fife, WA. She was enrolled for 12 months and received her LMP upon graduation. She does feel like she gets paid adequately for what she does. Even though every massage is different, a basic one-hour massage is $75. The treatment aspect is the best part of her job. Knowing that she has helped someone feel better and relieve pain. Not only that, doing this is quite relaxing for her. If she could change something about her job, it wouldn’t have to deal with the job itself, but she would have taken a longer, more in-depth course because it seemed like they crammed all the information into them in a short amount of time.
When B was growing up, she didn’t want to be a massage therapist; she wanted to be a doctor. Even though they are both in the medical field, she didn’t do what she wanted to. This job is fulfilling her for right at this moment because she has young kids and this gives her a more flexible schedule. However, this also doesn’t fulfill her since she has bigger dreams of becoming a doctor of naturopathic medicine and nutrition. She would use these skills to establish her own natural wellness center. So, even though it doesn’t fully fulfill her now, it still helps since it is a part of the bigger picture for her future. She will stay with this for now and when she gets the chance, go back to school and start working on the education she’ll need for her doctor of naturopathic medicine and creating the wellness center.
One piece of advice she would give to someone working in this field is to take care of your body, especially your hands. Not only that, if you are going into business for yourself, you need to have patience to believe success will follow. She also said that the most important thing you have to do is have fun because if you’re having fun doing what you do, then it won’t seem like a job.
For me, this is not a profession I would be interested in because I am more of a numbers guy and like to deal with math and science. But I can use her advice really well. No matter what I do, I need to take care of my body so I can live a longer, healthier life. Plus, if I’m doing something that I enjoy, then it will not seem like work…but pleasure.
