Summary

In order for the future of the United States to strive our youth deserves the right to obtain an education. A proper education to be provided to the youth to give them the opportunity of a brighter future for themselves. Barriers placed in front of students need to be taken down in order for them to obtain a higher education. Barriers like opportunity gaps and awareness gaps can both lead to students to drop out of high school, which ultimately puts a drain on our society. However, could have a significant national and international effect. Which leads us to why education is so important and why education should be the highest priority in order for students and the United States to achieve a brighter future. Education is a right to United State citizens because, education is an investment into the youth of the country.

Education: Is education a right or a privilege?

Every year, 1.2 million students drop out of school. That breaks down to 7,000 dropouts every day or 1 dropout every 26 seconds. Dropping out of high school not only puts a drain on the ability to obtain a good paying job but dropping out also places a drain on society.  NCES states: “In 2008, the event dropout rate of students living in low-income families was about four and one-half times greater than the rate of their peers from high-income families (8.7 percent vs. 2.0 percent).” Which leads society to believe that we cannot be doing everything in our power to support the low-income families enough in order to help the youth of those families strive for a better future with a stronger education. There are many obstacles or barriers in the way for students to complete their education and when families become over whelmed with those barriers it tends to put a barrier in itself on the mindset of how important an education truly is.
