In this assignment students will analyze a recent journal article and compare and contrast the
findings from the topics discussed in the text book (Robert L. Mathis and John H. Jackson, 2011.
Human Resource Management. 13th Edition) 

From the UNT Library’s Electronic Resources use any of the following electronic resources to
find the article:

 Sage Journals Online
 ABI Inform
 LexisNexis Academic

Find an article that is related to any topic in the following chapters: (only pick one topic from
one of these chapters)

 Human Resource Management in Organizations (Chapter 1)
 Strategic HR Management and Planning (Chapter 2)
 Equal Employment Opportunity (Chapter 3)
 Workers, Jobs, and Job Analysis (Chapter 4)
 Human Resource Planning and Retention (Chapter 5)
 Recruiting and Labor Markets (Chapter 6)
 Selecting Human Resources (Chapter 7)
 Training Human Resources (Chapter 8)

The article cannot be older than 2010. Prepare a Word document (saved as a .). The
document should contain the following:

o 2 pages detailing the topics/issues covered in the article
o Clearly state the chapter and topic presented
o Explain various view points on the topics/issues (relate back to the subsequent

chapter)
o Formulate an opinion on your thoughts and ideas on the topics/issues
o Compare and contrast the findings from the article from the topics and viewpoints

discussed in the textbook (Robert L. Mathis and John H. Jackson, 2011. Human
Resource Management. 13th Edition)

o At the end of the document attach the article (this is not included in the 2 page
documentation)

Grading:
This assignment will be graded on content only. If students present a text that contains all the
elements required, they will earn 100 points.

The context of the assignment (formatting, grammar, spelling, proper citation techniques, etc.)
will be assessed, and points will be subtracted at 2 points per mistake with a maximum deduction
of 10 points.

The presence of the proper file extension and identification header will always be verified. The
absence of either will cost students 2 points. (See Syllabus for an example).

 Improper file extension = -2 points
 Absence of a proper identification header at the top of the page = -2 points

Framework For Answer
First section = Students should introduce the article (What is this article all about?) [Students
should summarize the article, introduce the topics/issues, and clearly state the chapter and topic
discussed] [[10 points]]

Second section= Explain various view points on the topics/issues (relate back to the subsequent
chapter) [[35 points]]

Third section = Formulate an opinion on your thoughts and ideas on the topics/issues [[10
points]]

Forth Section Compare and contrast the findings from the article from the topics and viewpoints
discussed in the textbook (Robert L. Mathis and John H. Jackson, 2011. Human Resource
Management. 13th Edition) [[35 points]]

Fifth section = At the end of the document attach the article (this is not included in the 2 page
