Hi! My name is Alina. I am a full time graduate student along with being the band graduate assistant and clarinet teaching assistant. I am in my second semester of pursuing my Master’s in Music Education K-12 with the desire to teach K-8, but am willing to do high school. I love the younger age and how well I am able to connect with them. For 6 years, I worked in children’s ministry at my church as the special education teacher and individual “helper”. I worked mostly with children 3 years old to 8th grade that were on the spectrum from low to high functioning. This was part of my passion for including children with disabilities in all areas of worship and making them feel comfortable and welcome.
This summer I am getting married and am so very excited. He is also an educator but thankfully, he teaches World History, rather than music so we know the struggles but don’t butt heads on pedagogy. I have a crazy, energetic, and loving 2.5 year old German Shepherd girl named Scout that loves to be the protector every chance she gets. Lastly, I love being crafty and creative and making things of my own but I am actually pretty bad at it.

Hello! My name is Haley Jett. I am a full time teacher at South Shades Crest in Hoover. This is my seventh year teaching 1st grade and I’m in my final semester of grad school. My area of interest in education is early childhood. I have specifically focused on getting my degree as a Reading Specialist in order to refine my reading instruction and learn more about quality, research based instruction. I have worked with students with academic, physical, and emotional disabilities. I currently have three children in my class that are instructed through the guidance of an IEP and one that is in the testing process. The most severe of these students has Multiple Sclerosis, an autism diagnosis, and prosthetic leg. This student is a multi-needs child and has taught me a great deal about accommodation, patience, creativity in instruction, and celebrating learning at all levels.
Some fun interesting things about me are that I have a 2 year old daughter, Pacey, who keeps me busy and constantly laughing. I am originally from Cincinnati, Ohio but attended Auburn University where I met my college sweetheart. A fun story is that I was trained on how to scuba dive in Hawaii with Arnold Schwarzeneggar and his family my Senior year of High School. I look forward to a great semester with all of you!

Hi,
My name is Mallory and I am in my second semester of the Alternative Master’s program for Elementary Education. I was a full-time dance teacher and choreographer for years, but now I just teach dance on the side while my main focus is school. I chose elementary because I have worked with students of all ages and I like how excited younger students are to be in school. I enjoy the playful aspects of younger children and I want learning to be a fun experience for my students and myself.
Last semester, I completed field experience hours in an early learning center and a child in my classroom had autism. He was non-verbal and I wasn’t sure how he would interact with his teachers or classmates without being able to speak to them. I learned that while he did not formally speak, he did have a way of communicating and expressing himself. We could always tell what his favorite activities and songs were as he would get very excited and jump up and down or dance around. He was also very affectionate, especially with his teachers. He loved to play with my hair and sit in my lap whenever possible. I really enjoyed my time with this student and learning more about non-verbal autistic children.
Three fun facts about me: I’m married to my high school sweetheart. I went backpacking through Europe in college and visited 16 cities and 9 countries. I sell handmade bath and beauty products on Etsy.
