HPSS 6631 ISU Athletics and the Law Research Paper

This assignment will suffice as my final research paper. I got to choose the topic. I want to touch on discrimination specifically in the NFL. Headlining the recent lawsuit presented by NFL former head coach Brian Flores. Emphasizing what the “Rooney Rule” is, how it has come about, and how it has not really changed the impact of hiring black and minority NFL coaches. I would also like to include information to conclude that Eric Bienemy, former Chiefs Offensive coordinator, has not been offered a head coaching job. After multiple successful years as a multiple time super bowl champion coordinator and well qualified for the position. And even expressing the interest in becoming a head coach following this past 2022-2023 season. Having to eventually settle for another offensive coordinator job (same position as prior) at a worse team the Washington Commanders. Any other necessary information in between is welcomed. Such as Steve Wilks, being another coach involved in the Brian Flores lawsuit as being wrongfully fired while being a head coach without chance to grow. He served as a defensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers this past season as well as being promoted to their interim head coach. He did an exceptional job leading the team to a 6-6 record, after taking over the team from starting with a 1-4 record. Many believe he was plenty qualified to take over duties as full time head coach with the Panthers. Including some players, that expressed via interview that they would like to see him be their head coach. He was not rewarded the job full-time. In turn he ended up leaving to accept the defensive coordinator position (same job as prior) at the San Francisco 49ers.
