· Waste combustion processes are responsible of particles and gaseous emissions. Referring to the particle emission, in the last years specific attention was paid to ultrafine particles (UFPs, diameter less than 0.1 μm), mainly emitted by combustion processes. In fact, recent findings of toxicological and epidemiological studies indicate that fine and ultrafine particles could represent a risk for health and environment.

· In this study the Impact Pathway Approach (IPA) was used to calculate the external costs associated with indirect exposure, via topsoil ingestion, to atmospheric emissions of lead (Pb) from a waste-to-energy plant in Denmark. Three metal-specific models were combined to quantify the atmospheric dispersion of lead, its deposition and accumulation in topsoil, and the increase in blood lead concentration for children resulting from lead intake via topsoil ingestion. The neurotoxic impact of lead on children was estimated using a lead-specific concentration-response function that measures impaired cognitive development in terms of IQ points lost per each incremental μg/dl of lead in blood.

You will then research the problem, develop a thesis about it, and construct a persuasive essay that explains the problem and argues for your solution. You must include a consideration of the opposition, which may include obstacles or impediments to your solution. The issue must be arguable and have reasonable opinions on both sides.

This essay will be constructed as an academic argument and therefore should be well reasoned, supported with logic-based evidence, and balanced through the consideration of the opposing viewpoint. Plan to write with a skeptical reader in mind. Offer logical arguments backed with the best evidence, testimony, and authority you can find. Use ethos and pathos carefully to help persuade your reader.
