Research a problem related to the city that you focused on for the city report. Argue for a solution to the problem. (For instance, a problem related to Detroit is the poor quality of many of the public schools.)
For your discussion question response, first do some research to see what problems or issues exist related to your profession or the city you worked on. Then, in the discussion, give us a full explanation of what the problem is. You may summarize information from your sources as part of your answer, but the summary must be documented and should not be a large percentage of your response. I’m looking for your own understanding of the issue or problem.
I’m not looking for you to give the solution of the problem or answer to the ethical or social issue here. I’d like you to go into the research with an open mind about what you will end up arguing for. But I do want to see a working thesis, as described in chapter 19. This is useful in determining whether the topic is one that will work for an argument.
Your response, then, should have three parts:
1. Background on the topic you are choosing (your profession or city) and the problem it has
2. Sources you used to find preliminary information
3. Working thesis
