Dear Mr./Ms.(Student Name):
My name is Randy Ready and I serve as your point of contact for the U.S. Department of
Homeland Security (DHS). As a component of our nation’s critical infrastructure, your
company’s operations are vital and essential, not only to your community, but to our country’s
homeland security efforts as a whole. Therefore, it is imperative that your organization take
certain steps and measures that will ensure your essential services will continue in the midst of
a critical incident. To that end, I am requesting a report be forwarded to me as soon as possible
that provides the following information:
Summary concerning your organization and what you feel your roles/responsibilities are
related to overall homeland security efforts.
The steps your organization has taken, whether internally or externally, to ensure these
expectations are fulfilled.
Conversely, provide information concerning challenges your organization faces that
serve as an impediment in meeting your homeland security commitments.
Lastly, what do you expect from DHS in this collaborative effort and how can we as a
Federal agency enhance our level of support?
I look forward to receiving your report, as it will serve as a vital component of our future planning
efforts. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at any time.

Regional Liaison,
U.S. Department of Homeland Security
I again wanted to take the opportunity to share with you what is expected in relation to your Progress written assignment. In this assignment we will bring together a number of the components we have discussed thus far related to various roles and responsibilities of the private sector. Specifically, you will produce a report that is in response to a request for information from Mr. Randy Ready from the Department of Homeland Security. This letter of request can be accessed through the provided link. In providing this information, you will serve as a representative of a private sector business/organization within a critical infrastructure sector, not the sector itself as you did for your Midterm. However, you can stay within that same sector as you did in the prior assignment, or choose to select a different one. In your reply, you will be expected to address the requested items by incorporating all of the topics we have covered thus far in class, such as critical infrastructure, continuity of operations planning, partnerships, information sharing, as well as other pertinent information.
Considering this is a response to a federal agency, I expect your report to be formatted and presented in an appropriate manner. Therefore, you would first be expected to provide a cover letter that would include information such as your company name, your name and position within your company, appropriate contact information, as well as a brief summary of what your report will include. Concerning the organization you represent, you can base it upon an existing company, or you can come up with one of your own, such as “Taylor Transportation.” You can even develop your own letterhead and logo if you wish, as you can customize this portion of the assignment as you see fit.
Obviously, the report itself would need to be formatted in an appropriate manner, with an introduction and conclusion that balances out the main body of your report. The body itself is where you would provide the specific information requested of you. Lastly, as is required of any assignment, you are expected to support your comments with information from applicable material, cited and listed appropriately.
As always, please contact me at any time should you have any questions or need assistance.
