Project 4 (45 points)
Project Format: Each page must be typed in 12-point Times New Roman or similar typeface, 1” margins on all sides, double-spaced. Please remember to correct misspellings and grammatical errors. On the first page, in the upper right hand corner, place your name, class title (TECH 454 – Environmental Engineering), and the date. Also on the first page, below the name block, place the title; “Project 4”.

Write your answers to the following questions in the requested format as required. Be sure to explain the information as required to support your answers. Cite examples.
Number your answers for each question.
1. (15 points total) Use the Internet or library as a resource to help you find as many
different
possible sources of lead in and around a home.
A. (7.5 points) List 10 of them.
B. (7.5 points) Short Essay Format. Pick one of the sources and describe the process that would cause the lead to be transferred to an adult
or
a child.
2. (15 points total) In our book, Introduction to Engineering and the Environment, we recently completed a chapter on life cycle assessments. On page 317, question 7.9 gives us some information relating to the popular grocery store checkout question: paper or plastic?
A. (7.5 points) Table Format. What would the numbers, for all three studies, for energy usage and the air pollution emissions for plastic and paper be if they had just done a bag for bag comparison? (1 plastic bag to 1 paper bag)?
B. (7.5 points) Short Essay Format. What conclusions can you make about the environmental effects of manfacturing plastic versus paper?
3. (15 points total) For the next class session on 11/18/2009, bring in clean samples of recyclable-labeled plastic to share in our discussion session. Points will be awarded, one item for each plastic category, up to the maximum of 15 points as follows:
