Group Term Project (Project Team Size: 3 Students)

For the group project you will have to choose one of two choices:

1. You will research a specific topic (from the list provided on the bottom of the page) for a

company, and present your findings and recommendations regarding what you think the

company can do to improve its performance. Approach this project as if you were consultants

who will be providing expert advice. As part of your research, interview appropriate personnel in

the company (e.g., plant manager, supply chain manager, quality control manager, etc.).

Document your findings from the interviews in your report. Also, review relative literatures

about the topics (minimum of 3 sources from books or peer review articles). For confidentiality

purposes, please use an arbitrary name for the company (s).

2. You will do a literature review research project on one of the topics shown below (you will

need a minimum of six sources from books or peer review articles):

Write-up

The report should be clearly and concisely written (typically 15 pages in length using double

spaces, 12 point Times New Roman font, not counting exhibits, illustrations, and any

questionnaires you may use). There are no restrictions as to the number of sections, other than

that the report should have a table of contents, abstract, introduction, statement of the problem or

need (describe the purpose or need for the project, the problem that your project is designed to

address), literature review (minimum of 3 peer review articles or books for choice 1 and

minimum of 6 peer review articles or books for selecting choice 2 for your group project –

excluding the text book), discussion, recommendation (provide some recommendations for

improving company operations or best recommendations if you select choice 2 for your group

project), conclusion, and references. There should be two cover pages. The first one, should have

the arbitrary name of the company, the topic being addressed for the company and the names of

the project team. The second cover page should be an abstract that highlights what is addressed

as well as the group’s main recommendations. The abstract should be about 150 words.

if you choose choice 1, your report should include background information about the

company that you are studying, including its products, processes, manufacturing strategy (e.g.,

3

assemble-to-order, make-to-order, make-to-stock, engineer-to-order…etc.), and where

appropriate, also provide a historical perspective for why the company operates the way it does

now. Again, for confidentiality purposes, please use an arbitrary name for the company (s).

Please do not use any confidential information pertaining to any companies, individuals or

businesses.

quality), 15% for the presentation and 5% for within-group peer evaluation/assessment of

participation and contribution to the work for each group member.
