Global 1 PAPER ASSIGNMENT 2 Spring 2013
NATIONALISM
Prompt:
How did the relationship between nationalism and war evolve in the modern period? What
ideological factors influenced this change? Pick an ongoing conflict today. What roles do
ideology and nationalism play in that conflict? For example, what role does nationalism play in
the heated exchanges between North and South Korea?
Directions:
Use material from the assigned readings to answer the question above. We are not asking you to
simply summarize what the assigned authors wrote. We are asking you to make your own
argument using concepts and short quotes from the readings to support your point.
Your paper should be between 1000-1200 words (double-spaced, 12 font, 1 inch margins). Pay
attention to spelling and grammar (see grading rubric below). Remember that citations are
needed for both paraphrasing and direct quotes from either the text or lecture. Feel free to cite
other articles and books as needed. Include a full list of works cited at the back.
Please submit your paper on the course website under “Paper Assignment 2” by midnight
Thursday May 16th. If you have trouble submitting your paper online please email it directly to
your TA.
