Nice start with your post about self-esteem measurement, especially regarding the avoidance of reverse-scored items.
Consider revising the item “I am content with the kind of person I am becoming” as I’d like you to focus on the current state of self-esteem (as we are trying to as a class develop a measure of self-esteem at this moment in time).

Thank you for the post. This post gives a strong sense of self-esteem and shows how it can be measured well using a Likert scale. One thing that I agree with is the preference for the 5-point Likert scale in self-esteem measurement, as it can give more detail on an individual self-perception and understanding of people’s attitudes towards themselves. Including positive and negative wordings helps balance the perspective, thereby helping remove response bias and improving the scale’s reliability. In addition, it is important to establish key dimensions and develop highly valid items based on the theoretical model. Cognitive interviews, pilot testing, and factor analysis using statistical output analyses provide rigor in the scale development process. The systematic method used in constructing this final instrument guarantees that the measured instrument is reliable and valid when considering self-esteem in different areas (Monteiro et al., 2022). The examples of items mentioned in the post, “I feel confident in my ability to handle challenges in life,” are good examples of self-esteem domains, such as personal efficacy and global self-worth, respectively.
It might also be worth considering the possibility that self-esteem is a construct that fluctuates over time and that these fluctuations are due to experiences in life, and assessing self-esteem may require the consideration of the dynamic nature of self-esteem (Monteiro et al., 2022). An alternative approach would be to use a longitudinal approach or include time-based variations to reflect better how self-esteem changes. Furthermore, delving into domain-specific self-esteem can give us a better understanding of how individuals value themselves in certain aspects of life, work, roles, relationships, or academic performance. In general, this post gives a thorough understanding of the measurement of self-esteem both, theoretically as well as practically. An important aspect of this is the need for a sufficiently well-crafted and validated instrument to measure this elaborate and manifold psychological construct.
