Foxes show many catlike features in their behaviors. For example, red foxes and gray foxes show a lateral threat display. A fox threatening with this display stands broadside, arches its back, erects its fur, and then charges broadside at the opponent in a stiff-legged gait. In addition, many of the fox’s vocalizations are catlike. Like kittens, fox pups hiss and spit at each other and at disturbances. Adult red foxes exhibit a variety of high-pitched social calls that range from a short mewing cry to a loud, high-pitched alarm scream. However, it is during hunting that the actions of a red fox most closely resemble those of cats.

No actor or actress likes to appear on stage with an animal. First of all, most animals are natural hams. They seem to know instinctively how to divert attention from a human performer to their furry selves. Furthermore, animals are often unpredictable. The poor actor can never be quite sure that the animal will not suddenly decide to nip or scratch.

· Animals make better actors than humans do.

· Above all, as every actor knows, most animals tend to be much more appealing and loveable than their two-legged counterparts.

Slang usually develops in certain patterns. It may begin with an individual who wishes to attract attention or who needs a new way to express something. Slang may also begin with a group. Some groups need to use a technical language; others wish to keep what they are saying secret. In any case, slang words move into the language when the people of a region pick up its use from the original users.

· What kind of slang do you find yourself using?

· Now, as the pattern develops, an entire culture may later begin using the slang.

A good novel stands head and shoulders above a poorly written novel. In a good novel the characters seem to live and breathe so that you grow to know them. Characters in poorly written novels tend to be stereotypes; they are not only shallowly developed. When you have finished reading such a novel, you may wonder what, if any, meaning it had. A good novel reveals several levels of meaning; it gives you something important to think about and discuss. In a poorly written novel the style is flat and unimaginative. A good novel, on the other hand, comes to life with a distinct, original, and appropriate style; form and content are seamlessly blended.

· Now, which kind of novel would you rather spend your time reading?

·

Certainly, a good novel is easier to read than a poorly written one.
