Recycling
The recycling of paper in other materials is extremly important and is often part of an organizations’ plan for green operations. Green (or greening) is a term used to indcate that a practice is environmentaly friendly. Valuable forests are being lost do to the millions of tons of paper that is used each year in the United States. Additionally, many landfills are reaching capacity. Recycling has many benefits:
· Recycling services can be cheaper than trash dispasol services.
· keeping paper out of the waste stream saves landfill space and reduces polllution through avoided incinearation.
· With the use of recycled paper, fewer trees have two be cut down and natural resources are conserved.
· Less energy is used in recycling products than in processing virgin materials.
· Recycling reduces greenhouse gas emissions that may lead to global warning.
Although it is not the responsibility of administrative professional to manage recycling, you can suggest that your organization began a recycling program if it does not have one. Management must support a recycling program for it to be sucessful. a recycling coordinator may be appointed. This person is responsible for designing implementing, and managing the program.
In addition to recycling, organizations can take other steps to reduce the amount of paper that they use. Some suggestions are provided inn the following list:
· Ask employees to write or print on bth sides of the page.
· Convert scratch paper into meomo pads and telephone message slips.
· Print or copy only the number of copy needed.
· Increase the use of e-mail to save paper used for prinetd memos.
· Shred used paper to use as packing material instead of usign plastic pellets.
· Use recycled paper.
· Store information on computer disks or other memory devices rather then on paper.
