As you work through each chapter in the book, the business impact project (BIP) is where you put your knowledge into action to better understand and connect with a business you are curious about, admire, want to potentially work for, already work for—or perhaps you are a super fan of its products.
Regardless of the business you choose for this experience, the business must connect to one or more of the UN Sustainable Development Goals—just as the opening chapter stories and end-of-chapter cases connect to them.
What’s the deliverable when you finish the project? By the end of this experience you will have a business impact deck (BID), which is:
- a Powerpoint (or equivalent) presentation, that
- depicts the five building blocks of the company of your choice,
- its impact related to the UN SDGs,
- as well as 2 to 4 potential entrepreneurial opportunities that the company should pursue in the future.
These opportunities are uncovered as you research the five building blocks, learn more about the company, the industry in which it competes, and the customers it currently serves and could serve in the future. These entrepreneurial opportunities could be new products, services, processes related to how work is done, new initiatives inside the company, or new projects to benefit the community served by the company.
Table B.2 (attached) also provides a great overview of the components of the Business Impact Deck and the questions answered in each component.
