Undoubtedly, you are anxious about your future career prospects. In your readings this week, you have come to realize that organizations rely heavily on overseas talent to fill positions, primarily when it comes IT jobs. Reflect on this by answering the following questions:
- Describe some of the pros and cons of organizations utilizing H-1B visa workers and relying on outsourcing to fill certain positions? How will recent trends in the increase of teleworking (i.e. remote work or telecommuting) play a role?
- What obligation do U.S. corporations have to the American worker and how might abuse to the H-1B worker program conflict with that responsibility? Is it unethical for a company to game the system to decrease costs, even if no laws are broken? Why or why not?
- Considering your own future as a potential IT worker, what advice would you give to corporate America to foster homegrown talent and encourage a sense of duty for improving the lives and career prospects of the U.S. workforce? Or should organizations instead be concerned with ethical employment practices around the world rather than focusing only on their home country?
