Consider the Therac-25 case that is described in the textbook (see section 8.2 in Gift of Fire). Assume the family of one of the victims is suing the hospital where the machine was used, the manufacturer of the machine (AECL) and the programmer who wrote the Therac-25 software. In this assignment, you will debate, draw conclusions and assign levels of responsibility or liability to each of the parties being sued.
There is a group discussion forum for each of the three defendants (the hospital, the manufacturer, and the programmer). In the case of the hospital, for example, the threads are:
Phase_3:The Programmer only!
The Programmer is responsible because…
Example: In what way was the Programmer responsible?
The Programmer is not responsible because…
Example: In what way was the Programmer not responsible?
Phase_3: The Programmer. Post at least 2 or more messages to each of the two threads for this defendant. (Notice this means you will be arguing on both sides of the same question.)
