Communicate Market Factors: SNHU Pet Supply Case Study
SNHU Pet Supply is a large pet supply company that sells pet food, toys, and supplies in its 10
brick-and-mortar stores located in northeastern United States. Recently, they partnered with
some small local retail stores to sell their products.
All product lines are manufactured locally, and the company has an exclusive partnership with a
regionally based logistics firm for distribution. The logistics company recently reorganized and
was late on several deliveries to distribution centers. With the increase in demand due to new
partnerships, the company needs to grow several departments to handle increased work,
including marketing, quality assurance, product testing, and production.
SNHU Pet Supply gives back to local and national animal welfare organizations and has a clear
statement of its corporate social responsibility. Although several nationwide pet-food recalls
occurred last year, SNHU Pet Supply products were not among them. The company is closely
following actions of the Food and Drug Administration to regulate pet food and plastics in toy
products. The company has also heard from some its farm suppliers that prices may increase as
    the result of tariffs.
The company will launch a new pet food line with products for both cats and dogs. Although
the new pet food will be sold for a higher price—about 10% more than a competitor’s pet food
    product—it’s a superior-quality product. The product is made with high-protein, all-natural
ingredients. This complete and balanced food option will keep pets fuller for longer, decreasing
meal sizes and feeding times, promoting healthy digestive systems, and supporting healthy skin
    and fur growth.
    Marketing Strategy
SNHU Pet Supply is interested in increasing sales through its online store. This is a recent
expansion of the marketing strategy, which was initially focused on reaching local customers to
increase foot traffic in the stores. While the company continues to actively grow a local
customer base, it sees the opportunity for expansion through the online channel. It has a robust
website and has recently expanded its online presence to include Facebook and Instagram. It is
also offering a monthly subscription through its website, as well as a one-day delivery.
SNHU Pet Supply and its products consistently receive four- and five-star ratings online. The
company quickly grew a following of 5,400 followers on Instagram and 4,200 on Facebook
when it launched. Conversion rates to online purchases and coupon redemption were above
5% initially but have since dropped to below 1%. The marketing department exhausted content
resources within the first two months of launch and has been struggling to keep up with posts
to attract and sustain the following.
Leadership of SNHU Pet Supply is willing to invest substantially in this effort to launch the new
product line; there are no budget constraints.
