Some people have claimed that “Science has become the religion of the twentieth and early twenty first centuries.” At first glance this may seem a contradiction, as for centuries science and religion have been cast as polar opposites. However, on another level, can we perhaps say that they play the same sort of role in our social structure?

In what sense might this statement be true?

Do you agree with this statement?

Why or why not?

What is the role science plays in our society?

Are there any problems with our society’s approach to science?
