Because of a continued rise in overall crime in the United States, it is crucial that law
enforcement agencies hire competent persons and the hiring agency provide the best possible
training and equipment for law enforcement personnel.
Why This Is Important:
With criminal activity steadily rising in the country, police departments across the nation must
hire only capable people to serve as law enforcement officers and provide the best possible
training to a hired officer of the law. These two countermeasures must be adopted by law
enforcement to combat and defend innocent citizens of society. A qualified candidate of law
enforcement along with the proper training and equipment, will be able to cope with the work of
law enforcement because they will be equipped to combat crime stronger. The work of a police
officer is difficult and dangerous; thus, they must receive the best possible tools to engage in
combating criminal behavior.

You will write a research paper utilizing the topic you presented in your Research Paper—
Development Proposal from Module/Week 2.
Components of the Research Paper:
• Existing research: what is already known about the general area of the proposed research.
• The rationale: state why further research is needed and identify the general area of
concern.
Guidelines:
• Current APA formatting (12 point Times New Roman font, 1-inch margins, doublespaced). See the APA Manual for more details.
• Length of 7–10 pages.
• Page numbers according to current APA guidelines.
• Third person voice.
• Must include:
o Cover page with the proposal title, student name, course name, and instructor
name.
o References Page.

o You must use a minimum of 3 citations from peer-reviewed journals.
• The electronic file you submit must be named in the following manner: lastname first
initial_submission type (i.e. rp1 for research paper). For example: smithj_rp.doc (this
