CIS1103 Research presentation

The Research Report is a presentation assignment where you investigate the use and impact of databases and/or information analytics on your chosen profession/career field of interest. Keep in mind that I would like for your delivery to be formal and research-based, not a conversational writing of your personal experience.

• Students should conduct external research on the impact of databases and information analytics on their chosen field of study or anticipated future profession. (Example: if you are studying the area of criminal justice, you may elect to research and present over how databases and information analytics has benefitted law enforcement.)

A minimum of two sources must be used in researching the selected topic, one of which must be located through the College Library, and one of which must be located through the Internet (or other means if necessary). Internet sites cannot be used exclusively as a source for all of the research. An article found in the online College Library database is not considered an Internet source. The textbook may not be used as a source.

Additionally, research should be confined to recent material, published within the past five years.

These sources should be mentioned in your presentation recording and included on a bibliography screen as your final slide.

When writing your presentation, please keep the following things in mind:

• Presentations should contain a minimum of 6 slides:

• Title slide – with your presenation title and your name

• Introduction slide – to introduce your key points. Tell me what you are going to say. “The use of databases and information analytics has significantly affected basic patient care in the following ways:

• Greater quality of care,
• Quicker response time on test results,
• Reduced errors in diagnosis.”

• Supporting slides (2-4 slides) – one slide to develop each key point. Use your supporting slides to expand on the ideas presented in your introduction and present your research findings. “The database information that has been made available to physicians has increased the quality of patient care significantly. According to a 2017 study conducted by the Carr Research Firm……” Be sure to cite your sources!

• Concluding slide – Use your concluding slide to re-cap what you just told me.

• A bibliography slide must be provided, listing your cited sources.

Presentation style is left to personal choice, but remember, this is supposed to be a formal, research-based presentation. Please keep transitions basic and images professional.
