Discovering you own through the Islam prospective.
How many times while setting alone you got analyzing your behavior, your attitude, or even a situation that you have been through? How many times have you been wondering and thinking wither you can identify your soul and really get to understand yourself from the deep inside? Do not feel ashamed indeed, you are in the first level out of really knowing the main aim of “You” in this Life.
First level or step is always the hardest one, Understanding people may get to be somehow easy, especially with life experience and daily life situations, but understanding yourself it much more tough, it needs a lot of concentration and a clear honesty, as you have to open up to yourself, what is inside you and which many times is the opposite of what you express or show.
After that you reach the second step, which is after crossing the phase of identifying yourself and reach the phase of knowing your aim in life and your connection with the creator. Many cultural troops since the beginning of the history have been examining different spiritual observance in a way of connecting with God. They used different methods of utilizing all their concentration in meditation and deep thinking, sometimes I was even like a journey or certain rituals for a period of time. The importance in this is that most those spiritual things was addressed for the connection with God and depend manly on the isolation of both physical and mental levels.
In Islam both Quran and Prayer have been the main connection to Allah, “if you want to talk to Allah Pray and if you want Allah to talk to you read the Quran”. Quran has been more than just a book with stories; it has been the law and the direction for not only a Muslim individual but also for the families, groups, and the community. With such precious and vast information in Quran, it has been Wa3ez for the reader on how to compete and survive in this life.
It is not an easy task to identify yourself, as Islam always direct us toward a higher level of spiritual feeling which is identified in Islamic word by “Al Eman”, Quran not only identifies the meaning of Al Eman for a Quran reader but gives also the direction on how to reach it. Al Eman in Islam is not just one level; it is a ladder where a real Moaamen has to compete to reach the highest Eman level that he can.
Asking questions like, what is meant by being a human being? How to be better person? What shall I work on in myself to get better? And much more questions are the common sense of any individual for understanding his own self, but Islam still wider this aspect by generating more aspects of thinking, such as where did I come from? What will happen after I die? How to get Allah’s acceptance on me? And from here it is very obvious how Islam elevates with the Muslims potential to another level.
Islam gives Muslim the freedom to do whatever he want, although humans were created to worship Allah, but they were not created as Angels, were they only worship Allah without any external factor to influence this. Humans were given a more freedom in living their lives, in the same time they are worshiping the creator. It is the freedom within a certain circumstances of doing things that matches the Islamic protocols. Islam never prohibited humans of enjoying, working or even having fun, it allows all this as long as it is not against Islamic rules. You just can enjoy life but with doing the worship you were asked to do, you are not expected to follow your desires and whatever you aim to without thinking deeply if it goes with the Islamic concept or not, you are allowed to live on your own but with a kind of self control and discipline. Having well self control and Islamic practice leads to self purification and soul satisfaction.
In all those coming verses we can observe Allah advice for human being to fear him and avoid his anger by obeying him, as well as to control our soul and avoid self-harming.
The questions arise here in every mind why where the soul mentioned in those verses so many times? And not only that, but also, with more than a Synonyms as Al Nafs and Al Hawa. The answer is simply because in Islam the Soul plays an important role in wither the person can be good or bad. In Quran Al Nafs was mentioned different times every time accompanied by a different description of the Human state.
Al Nafs Al Zakyah: here the description is for the good soul, and Zakyah came from Zakah which is a state where a Muslim gives money to purify himself so it is more like the purified soul.
Al-Nafs Al Shakia: This is the description of the evil soul.
In addition to those two descriptions of the soul, the Quran shows us three different type of the Soul
Al Nafs Al Ammara: by simple translation is the commander soul, or in other word the lower self, it represent the bad or negative soul that drives the person to do things just because he want to do the no matter if it is right or wrong.
Al Nafs Al Lawwama: this type of Soul which regret what it done, where a person start asking himself why I did that, or was that right or wrong, kind or reconsidering soul.
Al Nafs Al Mutmainnah: which is the positive soul, which has a self satisfaction; it should be the target for achievement for everyone, which has the happiness, peacefulness and satisfaction.
